Hi Manek that's great I too own a SONODYNE. It's the all time best Sonodyne product Uranus-2 . Can you tell me why does it distort when i try to connect DVD player thru equaliser, but the sound is clear when i bypass it.I also tried connecting to the amp direct and use the presets in the DVD player but it makes kind of 'chrrrrr' noises.the noises disappear when i set the presets at 'None'.Can you throw some light on this.

My old sonodyne system(which i refuse to give up) are two floorstander speakers made of teak wood and heavy as hell. They were called spectrum 8000. The amp was also a sonodyne transistor based 180 watts. My dad bought this system for us when I was in the 7th standard ! I still have it and it hopefully still works, though I have not played it for more than a year now. I dont know why but I refuse to give this up. So many happy memories attached to that system I guess.

Now for your problem....I am assuming you connect your dvd player analogue audio line outputs to the line input of the amp and not a phono socket. I also used a separate equalizer my teens with my sonodyne amp. I would connect the cdp to the line input of the EQ, the eq output would be connected to the AUX input of the sonodyne amp. Never ever had a problem with the connections. does your equalizer behave the same way with other sources too ?

Equalisers work fine with the tape deck, but they behave nasty with the DVD player, even the presets in the DVD player make the situation worse. I have connected the DVD to the CD/AUX in the amp and the performance is brilliant. The performance is more brilliant when i set the preset equaliser mode in DVD player to Rock or Pop, but it makes 'Chrr' noise at one particular frequency. It doesn't happen when I set the preset at 'None' mode.Is it got to do something with the audio set up in the DVD player as the amp is fine.

What dvd player do you have ? and what are the possible audio settings in the dvd player ? does this happen when playing dvd/vcd or audio cd's ?

check your interconnects and your audio out rca pins.

Ok the first thing you should be doing is using the stereo mode and not the other fancy effects modes. does it give you a problem with stereo ?

other modes may create problems if they are not standard. i have seen it in some bass boost circuits implemented in some devices.

Sonodyne AV300R costs 17k in Bangalore - Forum Mal - Sonodyne listening room.

It is ok. Looks massive !!

Also Sony has AVRs introduced to Indian markedt 497(5.1 - 15k),597(6.1 - 17k) and 897(7.1 - 21k). Fundo pricing!

Has anybody had a good long look at them?? Any comments on these.

I've heard the sony 5.1...pretty decent for the price.

PCM stands for pulse code modulation which is a technique used to store analogue info in digital format. This is what your cd audio is all about.
