would anyone have experience/info on marantz CD 7300 and marantz sd 4050? Basically i need a good cd player that can also handle mp3 and a functionally sound casette player. I was also told that there is combo available..denon DNT 645. Is it advisable to go for a combined cd/casette deck or opt for individual units and if so, are the marantz models i mentioned earlier are good choices?
Thanks as always

I doubt you will be able to get MP3 support in any CD Player. I think your best bet is a DVD/Universal player from the likes of Pioneer/Denon...I'm not sure whether Marantz has one such DVD player.

It is definetly not advisable to go for CD/cassete deck combo (I have not come across one). Opt for a DVD or CD player and a separate cassete deck.

The "Maratnz CD6000 OSE LE", is a very popular model if you are intrested in a CD-only player (no MP3)...its a good value for money. If you want to spend more money, try the "Marantz CD17 MKIII" or the "Marantz SA 8400". All of these priced between 15-45K (ruppes) in Singapore.

Cheers
Siva.

How does an entry level NAD CDP compare to an entry level Marantz CDP?

Personally i feel Marantz makes better CD players than NAD. At budget level, i feel CA's current Azur range is even better than Marantz. At a slightly higher budget, the Marantz CD17 and SA 8400 are a class apart compared most other players available in that price bracket (27K-35K INR, based on Singapore pricing!!). Rotel's RCD 1072 is also good choice.

Sony also makes some good budget CD player, but unfortunately they do not sell them in India.

Thanks...
The guy in the shop tells me that Marantz CD 7300 does play MP3 and the same is mentioned in several writeups on it. Is this info right??
On a different issue, I understand that NAD 320 BEE doesnt have a phono input. Any suggestions as to how it can be handled to play the large collection of LPs which i have and treasure!!

Sammy. Add a phono stage. I don't think they are too expensive. And most decent hifi outlet stock them.

I had been told the very same thing by a friend in singapore who modded my NAD. As per him there are basic "Design Flaws" in NAD players which limit it. Apparently the Marantz is the best in the design regard but where it falls short are component quality which although does not affect longitivity, does affect the sound.

Hence even simple mods like Caps/Diodes/Op Amp upgrades brings about changes.
Also there ar lots of websites which talk about on how to mod Marantz.

been hearing about phono stages. Are they different from phono preamps, which are sold for example by NAD. And some of the turntables also have a phono equalizer. So whats the difference between all these three:Phonostage/Phono preamp and Phono equalizer??
