I'm thinking of upgrading my ageing receiver with something from the Marantz range. I believe they have a more musical sound, great as I wish to use it for stereo as much as surround. The internet is beginning to filter the remaining SR7300 units out at the same price as the new SR5400. Has anyone auditioned these units and could possibly advise the best one for sound? Also, can both these units be upgraded (using the rs232 port) to use the new Dobly ProLogic IIx?

Thanks

Hello Mr nice guy!
I haven't heard both of them, but as far as I know the SR7300 can be updated. So I'd guess the SR5400, too.
What speakers do you use?

the sr7300 is a powerfull a/v receiver and of course you can make an update. there are many better receivers but at its price its a really good one.

The cheapest price for the SR7300 is £400 (£410 for Gold!). Can you suggest any alternatives to this? I was looking at the Yamaha DSP640-SE but was told it didn't have the same musical quality.

My speakers are a bit of a mish mash at the moment if I'm honest. Comprisomg of Castle Severn2 for front, Mission centre and Denon rear. No sub yet although I like the sound of the AE Evo.

Hello Mr nice guy! At this price I'd say: buy it. If I find an alternative (thats not an easy task!) I'll tell you till tomorrow.

Hi!
About $400 for a good receiver! That's good. I'm just wondering if there are good stereo amps for a price like that?

Hey David!

Certainly you can buy a good amp for about $500. But please open a new thread for that. Thanks.

Hello Mr nice guy, I would buy it. Maybe you can get a reduced price by your dealer.

if you want the best Reciever for SOUND, then I would forget all these and instead get a second hand Marantz 4270, 4300 or 4400. These things made in the seventies sound a way better then the new ones.
