Fellow Audiophiles,
What is your recommendation for a 1lac receiver? I like smooth sound - not tipped up at the high frequency like some of the more inexpensive examples. This will be used about 80% of the time for movies and the rest will be SACD multichannel - so stereo performance is not very important - i have a separate stereo only system,- and I would like HDMI connectivity. I would also prefer 7.1.
The room size it will serve in, is medium size (4.5m x 4m) so huge power is not required (75 -100 watts, 8 ohms, with all channels driven will suffice)
Please advice as I am not too sure what is available in the Indian Market.
My previous system was a separates based system with the B&K ref50 pre and a parasound 7 channel power amp.
Thanks in advance,
Sid

Hi Sid,
I havent auditioned many 1 Lac wala Recievers.
But here are the ones I like in that Price range:
1. Arcam (dont remember the model)
2. Marantz SR-8600
3. Cambridge Audio Azur 640R (not as expensive) but beautiful sound.

All these have a smooth but detailed top end and most importantly they are soooooooo clean sonically.

for a 1 Lakh recvr (i guess the 2-2.5K USD range) you can get the higher end models of any of the standard suspects.

I guess the newer marantz9600 might not just meet your budget but be good enough to more than power the room..i belive it also has more than 2 HDMI with autocaliberation as well .

BTW What speakers are you using for the HT ?

I am planning to use Paradigm Studio 40 v3's for the front, CC570 V3 for the ctr. , ADP's for surround and studio 20's for the rear along with a SVS powered subwoofer.

I'm not sure about the price, but you could give Mr Carver's Sunfire Ultimate a dekko... er... listen.

that is one cool setup..the paradigms are not really tough to drive and the SVS is one meanie of a sub.(I assume it is from their cylindrical series? )

I believe the paradigm HT offering is really great as their surrounds are really good..they have always stuck to their guns on it not being directional and backed it up with some great models.

Have you tried out the costing of the Marantz/Denon/ Onkyo/ Pioneer brigade in Pune ? I believe only these offer warranty servces.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Yes Arj - my SVS is the 15-39 pc plus, so it is the larger cylinder sub with extension down to 20hz at 100 db and higher. Just an awe inspiring Sub. Unfortunately when I talked to Tom Vodhonel of SVS he said that at this time they do not have any plans for India.
I have not yet gone shopping for the receiver, but hoped to get some leads for the forum.
I will plan on checking out the higher end, Denons (3806) & Yamahas (RXV2700 etc), but am unsure on the Marantz.
I am not too keen on Onkyo, but will also check out Pioneer.
Will see where this leads.
I would ideally like a separates based system, but I see that prices in India are wayyy over the top.

Hi Manek,
I would love to get the Arcam AV300 - but I think only their higher end models (read in the 1.5 lac) range have HDMI switching, correct me if I am wrong. Since the trend towards HDMI connectivity is in full swing, I really want to get this feature as I plan on using the rcvr. at-least for 3 years.
