HT Protection (from power surges, fluctuations, et al.)

Greetings fellow HT enthusiasts,

Firstly, may the year bring you lots of joy and prosperity (and enough money to indulge in your beloved hobby!)

I finally got myself a home theater system

after years and years of scouting around. Made up my mind and bought the following:

1. Cambridge Azur 640R AV Receiver
2. Energy Take Classic 5.1 speaker system
3. Alphason Designs AV rack

...with my existing Philips Matchline (CRT) and Pioneer DV686 universal player.

I'm looking for a decent power protection system for my equipment which can protect it from electrical surges, fluctuations, and also sudden power outtages. I've noticed during power cuts that the speakers make a loud "boooop!" sound and this freaks me out. Scared me enough never to turn on my system any time during the day.

Can you guys help me find a good protection system to help keep my lovely equipment safe from our city's (Bangalore)neverending power woes? Your suggestions and help is much appreciated.

Hi Jeetu,

the professional solution might be the usage of an UPS.

But there are some good ones in the lower price range, that makes it intersting for HTs.I can recommend the Powerware range from Eaton, for your setup you don't need the big ones...
But be aware, during a complete power loss, the cooling fans will make some noise.

After a couple of years (4-5 when in permanent use) the batteries need a replacement, but depending on the reloading cycles.
For homeuse maybe a little bit tooo much, but also voltage spikes or frequency drops will not affect your HT any longer.

Only an idea...
