Hi everyone,

I have an Onida DFX-5100P DVD player. In its setup menu, in the SPDIF output option there are two options 1)SPDIF RAW and 2)SPDIF PCM.

What i want to know is the difference between the RAW and PCM formats and which one is good/better.

SPDIF RAW: will output the stream as it is digitally recorded ie DTS recording as a DTS ot a Dolby as a dolby, or a native 48 or 96Khz as that

SPDIF PCM: whatever the recording in the media..it is forced as a PCM 44.1Khz digital.

for your AV digital input, you should use RAW. you would use PCM only if you have an older DAC that cannot accept upsampled

Thanks Arj,

Older DAC in my AVR or DVDP?

I have the Marantz sr-4600.

presently i am using the RAW format. I have also noticed a change in the output volume. RAW the volume gets a bit louder whereas in PCM it goes down. Is it because of downsampling to the PCM format ????

no no.. with an AVR use RAW. only if you had an older external DAC would you need to worry about PCM.
