CDs are cheaper in India - even the imported ones. However, the quality of the ones pressed in India is not consistent.

Savya - you are the one who started that crazy thread of Now Playing? And now another one?

I have just ordered from Amazon:

1. Saint Saens - Carnivel de Animax - Dutoit
2. Vivaldi - Four Seasons - Carmignola
3. Tutti - Orchestral Sampler
4. Chris Rhea - Road to Hell
5. Holly Cole Trio - Don't some in bed

The last 3 were recommended by Bhagwan & Switch-it-on !!!

Before this I bought:

Chhanda Dhara Rocords:
1. Bhimsen Joshi
2. Pandit Jasraj
3. Festival od Indian Music - Romantic Ragas

ECM Records
Making Music - Zakir Husaain, et al

I have been eyeing the Vivaldi and the chris rhea for a while now...
I feel these threads make more sense than all the threads which deal with audio equipment as at least these we can sample out and see if we like it. If we do , then we can BUY it unlike audio equipment!!!

I agree with you and I'm sure everyone else does too - just look at the replies & views !!!!

This version of Vivaldi's Four Season has been strongly recommended in the Rough Guide to Classical Music - and so has been the Saint Saens.

Hey Sachi! I thought your university library gave you all the CDs you wanted. And what's the diff between a good ol' MP3 and a CD? R u becoming an audiophile.

Say no posts on your headphones. Do tell me which one is tops - the Senn 650 or the Beyerdynamic.

Say has anyone bought a Moser Baer CD or DVD. They are the only ones available at such affordable prices that pirates will consider changing their business.

Great Kamal,
I went through their English collection this evening. Not so comprehensive, but quite a few that may be worth it. Like some VCDs on yoga. If the quality is ok, then good times lie ahead. I wish we could get our type of CDs through Moser Baer too.

Ordered online...

Deluge Grander - August in the urals
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a blank planet
Blackfield - Blackfield II
Spock's Beard - V
Symphony X - Divine wings of tragedy
Dream Theater - Systematic chaos
Fates Warning - Awaken the guardian

...can hardly wait for them to get here

Particleman,
Never tried cdbaby but I've known of a few bands that recommend this site for buying their music. Try secondspin.com, they have a huge array of used CDs at reasonable price. I've bought from them quite a few times.
do you get ur CDs directly delivered here in India? How much do they charge? I am getting them delivered to my friend in US who will bring it to me later this month.

Soulforged: thanks for the lead, Secondspin looks promising. In the past I would get them delivered here but the shipping was a bit expensive (I don't recall the exact amount but I think it was about $15-20 or so for 2-3 CDs/DVDs, or the equivalent of buying an additional CD) but the wait times were more than I can bear and once my "They Might Be Giants" DVD was badly damaged. I used regular air-mail so it would arrive with the lovely brown tape the Foreign Post Office uses, barely holding the contents together. So this time around I'm playing it safe and having my brother bring it with him when he arrives in Mumbai this Saturday. Next time I will take a chance and have it shipped here again, let's see if things have improved.

1. DVD-A of Veer Zaara ! (Yash Raj Films)

The recording quality is decidedly superior to the CD of the same movie but the audio mixing is not mature - still full of frills. But for Rs. 299 & good music, its not bad at all.

2. Vivaldi - Four Seasons - Itzhak Perlman; Israel Philharmonic; Zubin Mehta (DG)

3. Mozart - Violin Concerts - Itzhak Perlman ; Israel Philharmonic; Zubin Mehta (DG)

AES in Mumbai had a session with Yash Raj engineers speaking about the DVD A production of Veer Zaara. Very interesting insight into Bolloywood sense of musical aesthetics when the picture is not the main focus anymore, their target audience, the doubts they shared etc etc.
I can ask the AES if Victor from Yashraj can give a session in Delhi, if some audiophiles and pro audio people are interested in such a thing.
