Manek , Sadly There is also this matter of kind of music...maybe i am getting to be one of the cantakerous stodgies who said Rock is not music...but these days i really do not enjoy the newer music out there. anyway that is a topic for another thread.

Hey Arj,
While Rock might not be what it used to be, there is so much good music out there waiting to be discovered.

This weekend was particlarly satisfying from that POV.

On friday I attended this fabulous concert by the Jazz/World musician/bassist extraordinaire Richard Bona at the NCPA.Bona claims the late great Jaco Patorius to be his main influence and has played with an impressive rostrum of musicians.

Here is a clip from youtube that gives a flavour of the man's virtuosity - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jjGvSIXzms. For those of you who missed the concert, do try and pick up this live album, available locally called- Bona make you sweat.

Walked into The Blue Frog on Saturday for dinner and a concert by another extra-ordinary musician - Thierry Titi Robin.Titi Robin's music is an exotic and heady cocktail of diverse influences. He blends the gypsy music of Mediterranean Europe with Banjara music of the Rajasthan.

Here are links to his music - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3gawjqUoc4&feature=related & http://profile.myspa...le&friendid=70919050

I also picked up this amazing album called Full Circle by Sanjay Divecha, guitar player with the sometime legendary Mumbai rock band Crosswinds.

The album avoids the regular cliches and manages to be fresh as a breeze.I think that this is one of the best efforts by an Indian musician in a very long time.Highly recommended

Bio and samples of his music here - http://www.myspace.com/sanjaydivecha

...and while I'm at it let me also recommend this other album by Blue Frog Production called Smoke Signals.

So while rock may be in the doldrums, good music mercifully is alive and kicking.

Ameen to that.
