Daewoo have announced their intention to support the Blu-ray Disc format by introducing dedicated players compliant with the BD-Video 2.0 specification (BD-Live). No details were given on availability or price, expectations are for sub-$500 and a November introduction.

IFA 07 Daewoo has given the Blu-ray Disc next-gen optical disc format the thumbs up by showing off its first BD player, the slim, blue-hued DBP-1000.

The player supports the full BD specification, including the ability to access BD Live online content, to present picture-in-picture material and deliver BD's interactivity features - missing on many early BD players because the specification had yet to be completed.

Daewoo said its player can pump out pictures at up to 1080p via its HDMI port. It will upscale DVD and JPEG photos to full HD resolution, and supports DivX content too. The DBP-1000 can handle all the major recordable and rewriteable DVD and CD formats, along with BD-R and BD-RE discs.

In addition to HDMI, the DBP-1000 has a full array of s-, composite- and component-video, and digital and analogue sound outputs. There's even a USB port on the front for feeding the player with downloaded video content off Flash drives.

Daewoo didn't say when the DBP-1000 will go on sale, or what it's likely to cost

Bezüglich Billigplayer noch interessant

The BDA has announced that China Hualu Group Co. has joined the BDA as a contributing member, meaning they will have input on Blu-ray development. They also have a booth at IFA, so hopefully we will soon see some new products come from this company, which currently produces DVD players and recorders.

Preise von $199-299 stehen im Raum:

After much searching, I finally located Daewoo at CES today. Their BD Live Blu-ray player is still in the prototype stage and the company is in planning and research mode for an eventual Canadian release under the Daytek brand name. Daewoo hopes to enter the market in the $199 to $299 (Canadian dollars) price point sometime this year. There is still the possibility that the player could come to the US market, but the rapidly falling prices on BD players from major CE companies might price Daewoo out of the BD race in the states.

Hinter vorgehaltener Hand werden die China-BD-Palyer auf der CES gezeigt:

While I can’t release any details, today I was ‘leaked’ a brochure for a Chinese manufactured Blu-ray Disc player. The player is currently being demonstrated to invited guests at the company’s suite at CES.

According to the tentative specifications, this player will be HDMI 1.3 and 1080p capable. While it features 5.1 analogue outputs, it appears to decode Dolby Digital and DTS only - no advanced codecs are mentioned. The player is apparently based on a Sigma Designs core.

Sorry that I can’t be more specific, I don’t want to upset my source on this one. I will attempt to get in the loop regarding any formal press information on this unit.

One thing I can assure you - the cheaper price point players are coming.

Nene , Daewoo kenne ich noch...
Für mich kommt so ein "Billiggerät" nicht in Frage...Sieht zwar ganz spacezig aus und die technischen Daten stimmen , dennoch , nein Danke...
