Taking care of floorstanders

Hi guys,
I bought a floorstander recently, the Sony MF650. Do I place it on the floor ( as the name itself suggests!) or can I raise it a bit.
The reason I ask is that it may get dirty when the maid sweeps/swabs the floor. What is usually done in this situation?
Please share some floorstander care tips.

You can use spikes. They won't be costly.

Most speakers (floorstanding included) benefit from a stand to raise the tweeter to ear level and reduce the boominess in the bass. The cheapest way to achieve this is the get 3 stainless steel cones, stick it under a 2 inch thick slab of granite (pointed part down) and place your speakers with spikes on them. Expensive way out is to get a custom made heavy stand. Please do not use wooden stools or any light weight stuff under the speakers.

1. Where can I get the spikes in Bangalore?

2. What about protection from insects and the like? Should I use insect repellent sprays or will they damage the speakers?

Hi,

Pl. contact Mr. Murthy. check PM. Don't use repellant sprays, it contains chemicals, which will damage the speakers.

U may try napthelene balls, lakshman rekha, crushed dry neem leaves in cloth sachets to keey away roaches...

Hi,
I've put naphthalene balls in thru the bass reflex ports.
Regarding the stainless steel cones on granite slab, how do I fix the cones to the slab. Is there any particular adhesive I can use?
