Hey Thats really cool, its infact amazing....did it come with papers and warranty or is it Gray ?

I would have loved to do an A/B with my MS-1, any plans to come to Blore Buddy

BTW do you feel any lack of power in your cans when connected to your iPod ??

They are ofcourse Gray. But i hope it doesnt matter atleast for Cans! They sound pretty powerful when connected to an iPOD. Well the impedance of them are 120 ohms , that maybe the reason. One other time when i was in US i had bought a HD-580 and i connected em to a sony DVP S-7000 but it felt very weak .So the HD-580 needs a headphone amp , but not with HD-555..
Anytime i come to bangalore i will surely let you know!

The higher impedence of the HD-555 should provide a better bass output, particularly from older ipods, which have an inadequately small coupling capacitor... probably to fit into the casing ....

Now here it is....my friend is coming from US and he can bring me an Mp3 player, please let me know if there is any particular model of iPod which performs better than the rest.
I mean people keep speaking of different generation of iPods with different sound qualities. In the current market, whcih iPod has the best Sound quality, is it the Shuffle ?

According to Stereophile magazine, the Oldest Ipods have the best sound quality.

I have a 512 MB shuffle and a 60GB Video ipod ( Gen 5 ipod )

I would rate both their sound quality equivalent, because I have not specifically compared the 2 using a high res audio file. It would also be difficult to set exactly the same sound level.

The shuffle without a display is like a blind bat. Forget it, unless you wanna just put in a few songs.... you will find it tough to locate an play the song you want. On the other hand, the shuffle is tiny and light.

The ipod nanos seem to offer the best of both worlds, ( small size, with a display ) but with a small capacity of 4 GB ...

My advice, pick up your ipod from the Indian 'grey' market. The 60 GB Video ipod is approx Rs 19,250.

In the US its US $ 400 + Sales Tax which is 10% in California....

The 30 GB Video iPod is ( I think) about Rs 15,500 here.

The 60 GB product also offer a significantly longer battery life than the 30 GB Video ipod, though the 30 B one is 30% slimmer.

Also the grey market ones can be registered at the apple website, on the net. That does not necessarily equate to an Indian warranty ( I dont know ... apple is ambigous ) but the US purchased ipod too will have no warranty in India...

Thge comparision of different HDD players was nice.

However, it said :

Considering measuments on the headphones output,
the Creatives perform better (100 points) compared to the iPod (89 points),

but the magazine concludes that the iPod sounds better (100 points) compared to the Creatives (89 points).

I suspect the 'performance' tests were done (as is done in MOST of these reviews ) with No Headphone ie no load connected to the ipod.

With no load, the ipod shows a flat low freq response, but this LF performance rolls off SIGNIFICANTLY when headphones are connected at the output of the earlier gen pods. This is probably because of the lousy (small value ) coupling capacitor.

I must add that the Click wheel interface on the pods is worth almost the full price of the ipod... its intuitive and qulickly helps locate the song I want.

A keyboard would have been even better to search..... I am told that spurred by the Much larger displays on other players, the gen 6 ipod MAY have a Full sized TOUCH screen, covering the entire front face of the pod, and the Click wheel or Keyboard could be pulled up, when required..

Dream and drool .....

Abhi,
I dunno about iPods, but your MS-1 might benefit with an amp. Not sure if you have one. But if not, then you can ask your friends to get one of these:

They are also available from eBay. Not the best, but headphones sound better with these.
