an old marantz amp

Hi Guys,

I got an used Marantz stereo amp PM 44SE ie a special edition(whatever that means

).I liked the sound out of the amp for music. My be this is the kind of 'uncloured sound' u guys are talking about.Obviously my son was not impressed.He says it lacks the punch of my Aiwa system :).I dont even know the specs of this amp leave alone any knowledge about its perfomace.

When i connected my Aiwa speakers to the amp it was fine.But when i connected to the Rear Left and Rear Right out put of my DVP to the amp and connected my old philips speakers i couldnt get any sound.The speakers were as silent as the hills

.Can any one of u will be kind enough to tell me what am I doing wrong here?
And If u guys know anything about this amp do share it with me.I am told Marantz CDP se63 will suit this amp very well.Is that right. I am offered this cd se63(used ofcourse) for 4k.Any suggestions on that?

What is the Rear Left and Rear Right out put ? You will need to connect the left and right channel outs (RCA out) for cd listening of the dvd player to the aux / cd input of the Marantz. Then it will work .

The marantz cd63se is a fantastic player but if it is too old, it may die anytime. But a sparingly used cd63se will beat most entry level cd players of this era. For 4k it is a steal. If you have anybody in Singapore, you can get this player modded by TS Lim. He loves this player for mods.
