Quad Bookshelves (11L & 12L)

excellent combo and speakers.....only problem I have noticed is that they sound congested at highish volumes, all of them. the 22L starts to get very aggressive at high volumes. 12L and 21L are the best of the series to my mind.

If you are looking to pair the bookshelves with a Sub then I would suggest that you go for the 11L pair. They sound very nice if you hear jazz, classic rock and instrumentals. Wont work for pop though.
I own a pair and am extremely happy with them. The 11L is better than the 12L IMHO but even the 21 L is nice. The cost would be the same but the bookshelfs with the sub sound better than the 21L alone in my opinion.
The mids are outstanding and the highs are good. The lower frequencies are not one of the strengths but the 11L matched with the sub would beat any other speaker within the same price bracket.
If you are in Delhi do come over with your Amp and have a listen yourself.

The Quad L-sub is priced at Rs.69,000!!!! That brings me back to the Wharfedale SW150.

Oops, did'nt know that the sub was that expensive...I take my words back regarding the value for money factor...
However I will still vouch for the 11Ls.

the wharfy sub can be used only in an HT.. it is about as Single tone as it can be.

If you can find a DIY enthusiast, he might be able to build one so much better for you for a slightly higher cost..

I have done a detailed audition of the 11L and the 12L and i found that the 12L was better than 11L . Why did panditr find 11L better? Anyways the 12L's are very nuanced , what i found was i need a good room and good acoustics to make them sound better...

I am not much of a bass lover hence I did not feel the need to spend an additional $270 for the 12L for a little more bass. The Quads are known for their excellent mids and highs. As the difference in the lower frequency production between the two bookshelves was not much, IMHO the 11Ls were better value for money. If a person likes bass in their music then a sub with bookshelves or the 21L/22L would give more listening pleasure IMHO.

Quad 12L is more a complete speaker with a flatter frequency response over a wider range.Quad 11L sounds thin and a bit constained at higher volume.One can enjoy music with Quad 12L without a sub.
