Best bookshelves under Rs 30,000

Of all the speakers I have auditioned in the under Rs 30,000 price bracket, the Energy Connoisseur C3 has impressed me the most with phenomenal reproduction of vocals. I would welcome others to name their favourite bookshelves in this price range.

But I struck gold with the Energy bookshelfs C3 : Rs 28,000
Denon 2910 SACD Player : Rs 40,000
Denon AVR 1804 : Rs 24,000
I listened to Norah Jones - Come Away With Me on this combination and it was truly ethereal. Extremely impressive. The Energy bookshelfs are really worth it for mids and highs. Since I listened to them with the REL sub, I don't know their low bass capabilities. And the electronics combo must have complemented them as well. The demo room was heavily damped with treated corners.

Can the Canadian Energy take the crown of the best bookshelves under 30,000. Tell me your views.

Dear Neutral,
If you can spend little bit more then you can get Dynaudio 42 bookshelfs.... No need to speak anything about them just buy them it will be far better than what u have experienced. But with 5.5 inch midbass ...but vocals will be far better...

I have heard the Dynaudio Audience 52 with Junia's Plinius stereo amp. Phenomenal clarity of sound. But then it's a more expensive combo than the Energy C-3 with a normal amp. So I guess the Energy remains the winner in the mid-priced range.

Never heard a Quad before. Where are they available in Mumbai?

Hi Neutral,
Don’t know it’s availability in Mumbai. You could check out with the wharfedale guys in Mumbai. They should have them as they are all sister brands. The C3 has been getting very good reviews all over. Must be a good speaker. I have not heard them, so can’t comment.

In the same price range, I liked the Linn katan better than the audience 52. The 52 had a slightly fat bass with some overhang while the katan was tighter with more detail in the bass. The mids were better in the katan in my opinion. The highs were good with both.

Do check out the Energy C3 if you get the chance. Their vocals performance will surprise you. Never seen the Linn brand at any exhibition. Do they have distribution in India, specifically in Mumbai? The Audience 52 might have limitations but only if compared to really great speakers. It effortlessly walks over locally made stuff in clarity and detail.

Very true, dynaudio audience is definitely a walkover over most speakers in its price range. But this is true with only the audience42 in my experience. At the 52's price range, there are quite a few contenders and you may prefer one over the other depending on your taste. Another factor to remember is that dyns need really beefy-high current amps to perform to its true potential. They can be driven by the likes of c320bee but you really won’t extract the juice outa them unless you pump in some real current into them with a power amp.

Linn is availiable with absolute phase in bangalore. You may get them in mumbai too.
