I had heard a Pro-ject turntable with Ortofon cartridge some time ago and I remember it sounding very nice and true. Now that I'm in the market for a new TT, I would like to hear from you, what you think of the models available right now.

Has anybody had any experience with Pro-ject TTs? How are they in terms of reliability and endurance? So far, it seems that the Debut III is the best budget TT around...which other TTs would you recommend? There is a Denon under 10K but I haven't checked it out yet...

Have used 2 models of Project RPM4 and RPM9 (still using). At the respective price points they are very hard to beat. As you go up their range the improvement is also progressive and the best part is that they stop their range just at the point of diminishing return starts You will never feel that you have wasted your money on them !

I may have also suggested that you look at the Rega TTs but alas Soundsmiths has stopped getting them. Yes between Denon and Pro-ject, Pro-ject any day.

Hi,
Have had my Project Xpression for an year almost and have had no problems. The only real limitation with the Project is the lack of after market goodies. Other than replacing the mat there is not much you can do. The new xpression should be worth considering, although I would suggest that you go as high as you can with a TT. Firstly because the chances are that you wont buy another one again, and also the improvements are obvious in TTs. More so than marginal improvements in speakers for instance.

so far pro-ject seems to be the favorite here and that's in line with my impression of the brand. I would have loved to try out the Rega but like Jeeves said, its hard to come by in India...come to think of it...almost any TT is hard to come by here...

Another Q is do the direct drive TTs differ in performance from the belt drive ones? I have heard/owned both types and honestly, I haven't been able to make out any differnce. Similar doubt on MM/MC as well...

Hey all,

Does the Project Debut 3 come along with a phono built in..
I am looking for a TT which i can just plug and play with my amp or my Nad 320Bee..
My Budget is 15k and no more.
Appreciate if you could help me out in finding a TT in that range.

Is there any place in bangalore which sells TT so that i can go listen.
Or if anyone has a TT i would love to have a listen if they are willing.

Finally, are Pro-ject TTs available in India?
Who sells them?..any representative in Bangalore?

hey saachi...denon has a TT with a built in phone under 10K. You can check out with ProFx to see if they have one on demo right now...

Pro-ject is distributed in India by Nova Audio, Mumbai...think Prithvi deals with them in Bangalore...haven't come across any other TT dealer here...if someone knows about other dealers, please let this forum know...

Pro-ject has a debut model with a built-in phono though I'm not sure about the price...guess its around 20K...would love to know about the retail price...

Hi!

Do sell Pro-ject TTs, but only on order. Anyone wants a listen to the Linn LP12 they are most welcome. We also sell LP cleaning machines, cleaning fluid, MFSL Inner Sleeves etc.

Check out www.nittygrittyinc.com. By the way we also do offer an LP cleaning service.

I do have a Project Debut IIII which is definitely a value for money compared to its price but let me highlight few of its shortcomings here:

1)The model cost me around 15k a jet black very attractive piece. But here you don't get a changer by which you can change the speed between 33 & 45rpm.Everytime I have to do that I need to lift the platter and then move the belt which is a cumbersome and a bit risky job.

2)If you are ok with the above then its fine as most of the vinyls come with 33 RPM speed. But if you need to buy an automatic changer which needs to be externally fit into the TT it will cost you another 5k.

3)I do have a Technics Direct Drive player as well as I have seen the performance of Technics SL1200 MK2.Now in comparision to Project Debut III both these models give you crystal clear sound with no unwanted noise, pickups or earthing sound even if you turn on the volume knob to the maximum. So anyday given a choice I will buy a Technics 1200MK2 which is a world reputed DJ TT though the price varies between 25k-35k depending on the place from where you buy.

4)The basic Ortofon cartridge (OME 5 i suppose)that is fitted in the Project Debut III model is heavy on bass and less on treble which is not to my liking.I use a SHURE cartridge in my other TT which is beautifully balanced.

5)If you need to replace your existing cartridge with any other one then you need to buy additional weights also for your tone arm.So an additional expense is involved.

6)Debut III doesn't have a inbuilt preamp and I think its good as none of the high end TTs have it.
