Does CDP really matter

Hi,

I am of the opinion that CDP does not matter much as long as you are using a decent one with digital/ optical output.

Here is my logic:
- The data is stored digitally in a CD
- CDP pumps out the same digital data in a stream thru the digital/ optical output

One may argue that some CDP may make the digital data corrupted/ add jitter etc. However, the probability of such a thing may be negligible for any respected brand, as digital data is quite robust.

IMO, dont spend lot of money on exotic CDPs, buy any philips/ samsung/ sony, etc. for abt 3K, and use the digital, preferably optical output.

Cheers,
- Debu

naaa..u've got it wrong buddy....i too used to think along the same lines...
but my DIY speakers were pretty good to make us hear a clear difference between my HK unviersal player nad the entry level NAd521..
The HK sounded more brittle and edgy in the highs while giving a more wider and livelier soundstage..
however, the NAD was tonally better balanced though the image appeared a bit enclosed.

It matters as long as you have a system that can bring out htat difference..and of course if u can ehar itwhich if u don't u would be richer than most of us here

May be you are using the line/ preamp o/p of the HK player. Can you do an unbiased experiment (with same CD, with digital/ optical o/p only) and compare the sound.

Hey cmon dude...you are getting back on your words...you said we will do a A/B here when you are back.
Even I have auditioned Krell with Dynaudio and found it boring and without any soul in the music. Whats the point ??

Lets not cat-fight here on this forum..do a A/B one on one back to back... and post our findings on the forum, that would make sense IMO.

Dude which Krell int amp did you listen to? and with which dyn's book shelves? Or did you by any chance listen to some junked up shi*ty Pleateau current biasing models.

I never ever told you i would do an A/B of my stereo power amp's Class A bridged with a little Plinius and tiny Dyn's.
Get yourself something to think dude.

The day I think of an AB with int amps i will throw away my gear.

guys if i can butt in, a AB between a krell KSA Monoblock and an entry level Plinius will not do any justice to either party since they are on different market segments.

the plinius 8100/9100 with a KAV400/300 or the KSAs with a plinius SA series would be interesting though.. and am sure we will anyway end up with "to each his own "

sinece all of these monsters can drive any speaker am sure the results will be different with each.

Ok, while I get myself something to think...you need to watch your words and stop getting abusive
you seem to have forgotten but here is what I wrote:

Hey buddy, please dont assume things...
I have auditioned the Krell KAV-2250 with a Dynaudio Audience 82 and Wadia CDP (for 4 hours at a stretch)..........you know what a Plinius 8200 beats the pants out of that Krell monster.
Yes....I mean it. Come over to my place if you wanna take it further........I agree that Krells have a lot of power reserve to drive difficult loads. But talking about listenable levels of music, Plinius is way way way more involving and musical.
Cmon buddy......I know you can drag this discussion for another 100 postings without coming to a conclusion...
So why dont you drop in sometimes....I dont have a krell to give you an A/B comparision at my place but still if you have heard the Krell then its good enough to realise that PLINIUS IS GOD......
Now please dont mess up this thread with your same old nasty postings...

So now you know which Krell and what speakers I was talking about ????
Now this Krell + Audience82 + Wadia setup was easily beaten by my "tiny" Plinius + Audience52 + NAD setup.

As Arj says, if you wanna do a absolute A/B then listen to Plinius SA series amp but if you have enough brains to do a A/B on a scale to scale basis then you are welcome to listen to my system.

And about this:

The day I think of an AB with int amps i will throw away my gear.

Dont get Arrogant dude, its just a solid state amp connected to a very normal speaker that you use...you dont use a "moon" as amp and "sun" as a speaker do you ??

Not that I want to get invloved in this one - it seems to be personal

But, I still want to comment on Krell & Plinus, if I may.

Dan D'Agustino was [still is] a 'speaker designer' He made amplifiers by accident. Krell makes amplifiers for the 'american market'. Either one loves them or one hates them, it is very simple. There is no 'grey' here. I know a few 'audiophiles' that love Krells & others that would not buy an 'evolution' set up @ 75 % Off !!!!!

Plinius [Peter Thomson] on the other hand, is a bit confused, does not clearly know what it wants ? Class 'A' or Class 'A/B' ? Circuit topology in its different amps are different. There is no brand design philosophy.
Maybe with new owners, things would improve.

Do not get into comparing 2 average products, if it is SS Amplification one wants, then Lamm / Accuphase / Pass Labs / Ayre / GamuT / Jeff Rowland / Theta etc. are options to consider, there an A / B would be a more interesting option.....Just a thaught !!!

This is my last post and as your suggestion about settling things thru PM is good, but abhi has raised some serious allegations here, So my last post regarding this carries some civilised logic.

Ho ho what made you assume I had a entry level Onkyo,
Hey dude does buying a sub for 20k make you stay far from Krell, Yes I need a decent set up for HT to entertain my family too.

BTW you were running around with your antique sonodyne, just audi's and no buying for two years so how do I beleive that you have Plin + Dyn costing a moderately?? sound logical right if I have to think in your dimension.I have a doubt that you are still sitting with your old sonodyne and just crapping around town.

Me and a loser, never. I always told you to drop in to my pad for a listen and if you want an AB you better get something equalient or else come for a listen session and GL.

I don't need to prove my set-up to anyone and it's you who is dancing on the forum and not me. Period.
