Don't most audiophiles have an itch to upgrade?

For example: Putting down Rs 80K for an integrated makes me think if I choose to go the seperates way down one or two years, how much will I get for my integrated?

If you are going to lose significant money upgrading hifi each time, is buying used gear instead of new a sensible thing to do?

Can those who have sold used hifi gear hear in India, share their experience, so it gives us all a good idea if someday we will have an echoloft.com(Singapore) and audiogon.com of our own?

You are right..it makes sense to go for used gear if it in good condition. Actually one can keep upgrading with used stuff for ever and still be happy!

Used or new you make a loss when selling, the question is about affordability. If you can take the loss and still stay afloat you upgrade. The percentage of depreciation on used gear will be less because the first guy has taken the major share.

for me used gear in the form of an amp is OK. CDP and speakers ? I still cant musterup the courage to buy those used. I knowof many who have bought used cdp's onlyto repent later.

CDps , and to be more specific the TRansport is perhaps the only component i will never buy used due to that difficulty in assessing it

for amps problmes are more apparent and even if you run into problems later , usually Capacitors may need to be replaced and that is really not a big problem.

speakers/cables etc it is very easy to identify in case of problems

Manek, I understand the point re CDP's-lasers are known to generally have a very finite life-but speakers?
What could be the prob in buying used speakers?
Else, many of the great speakers( e.g.Amp's SFE) could be out of reach.

speakers also have mechanical parts, the drivers....one doesnt know how the speakers have been used...overdriven, etc etc....
Buying speakers that are 1-2 yrs old is what I would be Ok with. Spares are not available freely.

But this is just me.
