Hi friends.
I want to buy a system for my office cabin consist of area 130 sq feet.My budget is around 25k for both amp and speakers.
I have never listened but one of my friend is using cambridge azur 340a and mordaunt short 902i speakers and he is quite happy with the performance, I am going to use it with world space and a philips DVD player which i already have in store. Since am in bhopal so dont have enough openings to explore the gears. Friends your valuable suggestions are needed.
Thanks in advance..

For a desktop system, you can get PRETTY GOOD sound from ALTEC LANSING. They have one priced at Rs 3500 which often is discounted to below Rs. 3K

Heartily recommended.

Im told their Rs 7 K system is even better.

just read that Dynaudio has launched a desktop speaker (active) may not be a bad idea with a good soundcard !

If using with a PC then this would be an excellent pair of active speakers to pair with it (has iPod connectivity as well):
Audioengine A5

Available in India (Mumbai) from www.bajaao.com

Sure the Altec Lancing will work Well with a WorldSpace Radio, or DVD player or an iPod. Its input is a mini Stereo earphone jack, so at worst you would require a RCA to ep-Female adapter.

DOWNSIDE
The Altec Lancing is basically a Sesktop Speaker, so the Volume, Bass & treble controls are on one of the speakers, and there is no remote. So if you place the speakers far away, you would have to adjust the volume control from the WorldSpace receiver, and since the DVD player does not (?) have a volume control, it would be a Pain !

Also No Source Selector, so switching from the WorldSpace to the DVD player would be a Pain... ditto for Any Other Active Speaker system.

For remote control of Volume and source selection you are probably best served by a Combo stereo System or separates with an Amp that has a remote control of volume and source selection.... for which the budget will zoom, but could still be had in Rs 25K.

Sir, mine has a remote;
Also has bass & treble control.

Under 25 K - this is difficult to beat; IMHO.

Suggestions are wlcome.

The Audioengine 5 is a good option too. But with a sub, will it come under 25 K ?
The AL is for under 8 K delivered with warranty, I think.
I had paid 7.8 K a year + back !!!

Please do not 'pelt' me;
However, I would prefer the Altec to the combination that you have stated.

However, please do note, if you buy the AL, then you will have to invest in a good sound card for your computer. Do not try and run it off the mother board. Small request !!
Thanks.

Bhagwanji, the A5 is around 18k but there is a smaller option - the A2 (without iPod dock) for around 9k as well. In this budget a sub might just fit (but would a compact office rig warrant a sub?)

@bobbybpl:
Another option is something like the Onkyo CS-515 CD-receiver. Believe it has digital-in as well for DVD player connectivity.

The Worldspace Receiver (at least the BPL Diva - one that I have) has volume control & remote. I belive it should work perfectly well with active speakers.

May be you should try Sonodyne Active Studio Monitors - I'm not sure of the price but I feel it should be well within your budget.

Onkyo CS series do sound good. Have used their old model called CS305 CD Receiver . The CDP is surprisingly good and the small speaker is well balanced too. Overall a compact all in one package, just plug it in and play, not much cables and power cords to worry about :). The matching Compact Cassette player was one of the last to be marketed before the death of the medium.

How & Where wll you manage that ?

The Computer has to have an 'upgraded / dedicated' sound card. No dealer / retailer will ever understand that. They will all play it [if they do] off the mother boards audio output. That is a full waste of time.

This speaker plays well only when you give it a good quality 5 to 8 K worth sound card - lynx [too expensive] or EMU or M-Audio etc.

But, I still say, it is a great VFM product for persons with a 20 to 30 K budget.

Seperated that cost 30 K + will out perform it [by & large] !!!

Bhagwan Sir, this is preety sure that i shall not use it with my laptop,the only source would be world space and a dvd player, Hence the quality of altec would purely depend on its own capablity..

bhagwanji, i called up few dealers of altec here but no one has in stock the desired model and i was quoted 6300/- which seems attractive at this stage but again the question comes that would altec shine with world space ?
As u said it will play well only with upgraded soundcard..

Sound Card;
Did you change it ?
That is very very important.

Please do invest an extra 5 to 7 K on that.
It will make a lot of differance. Trust me. I have done it, the money is well spent.
