You are located in India & Saachi is in the USA!
it's going to be a very expensive listening session for either one that decides to visit the other!

Arj

Cadence had made electrostatic headphones and good sounding ones at that.

Some how I believe they would sit confortably on ones head.
I am not too sure about the story but deaf should have the correct one.

Thanks for the invite soundsgreat. ..I sure will look you up and check out your DIY system when I visit.

I have two more headphones coming in from Europe. Leftovers from the erstwhile cold war, made by the East Germans. I also have a friend making a pair of custom headphones cups for me to fit to a grado headband.

Another interesting project is making an adapter for my sansui speaker amp so I can drive my orthos directly from it. These orthos are power hungry monsters.

Now sir, thisis very interesting news indeed.

I wonder if cadence would sell just the drivers?. IT could always be re-terminated into a stax plug and used with a stax energier or other tube stat headphone amps.

ANother company that is into ribbons is making headphones too, RAAL. yes the crazy Serbians. They have a prototype going but its not much, still a start.

Then of course there are DIY versions that use Ergo AMT drivers.

SO if cadence has something cooking for headphones I sure would love to find out more. I'm all ears deaf.

Ok the story,
OTL driven electrostaic with dedicated preamp.
1 micron diagphram, you could see through it.
10Hz to 40kH +/- 0.1db(100kHZ theorotically).
Only 2 sets were made. Shanti used one of these.
"Perfect", that is what John Borwick of Gramaphone magazine said when he heard them, I was there.

My description would be "Beautifully addictive".

Would they consider making another pair sir..that is the question..having the ability and not making it is such a shame. There is a market for these phones a niche one but a decent sized one.

I would be interested in trying to acquire one of the existing pairs if possible too.

As far as I know Cadence sells none of their electrostatics for 3rd party use. So the DIY is out.

well that's understandable. besides, the DIY market for electrostatic headphones is very very small. FInished headphones though havae a prety decent market size and are all for the most part niche end users. The only company that is actively making electrostatic headphones other than Stax has been the CHineses company Jade. It would be so awesome if Candence could shake things up with headphones of their own.and I know they make pretty darn good speakers so I would expect nothing less from their headphones but wrld class quality.

Almost a decade ago, I had read ( on the internet) detailed DIY instructions to make Electrostat panels for Headphones & speakers... starting with Plastic Film and spary painting a conductive layer.

To me it seemed that some trial and error would be required to get things right, but once done right, could be easily productionised as a garage operation. Its Not Rocket science...

Incidentally, guys, I still have for sale a pair of barely used STAX Earspeakers

Price Rs 18K negotiable.

True, I heard 4 model types of rips, 1 was a good Pioneer DJ rip and suitable for the application intended, 2 sounded shitty, the AT was so good, that the visiting Jap AT guys who were shown the rip did some shitty in their pants.
