There are a few shops that handle branded stuff

Spencer super market(Changed name recently) in Spencer plaza--carries Onkyo, Yamaha, Jamo, Mission, etc

Audio ppl, GN Chetty road - Mordaunt short, Yamaha, REL, Velodyne(maybe)

Isphani centre, Nungambakkam - Bose

Profx, Spencer plaza - Profx models, Polk, QED, Denon

Cinebels, Egmore - Mirage, not much that i can recollect

Another shop whose name i can't recollect but who stocks Wharfedale

Lots of Sony showrooms sprinkled around the city

Apaprt from this there are a few more that I have never been to.

If you are into DIY or computers, then Ritchie street is the place to go. Torvin(Power electronics) is also located here. Apart from that there are also some second hand shops here.

Nungambakkam is bang in the centre of the city and all the places i mentioned are in a 2-3 km radius.

Thanks a ton Pranab. Chennai won't be too boring after all! I'll visit Bose first since they are at Isphani centre in Nungambakkam. I hope they have the 901s and not just some crappy home theatre cubes. Then I'll check out the other places when I get the time. I will be working in the Pizza Hut building on the Valvurkottam road.

I'll call you as soon as I get a breather from work. Are you yourself located close to Nungambakkam? Maybe I can visit you sometime. Could you suggest any nice (non-audio) places to visit as well. I am told Chennai has great beaches.

Anytime Neutral! Most welcome. Actually the beaches that you mention of are Marina and Elliot's beach. The former is more like a heritage site where the official tourists visit it like a pilgrimage. The latter is also popularly know as besant nagar beach (Incidentally i stay on this beach front) which becomes home to the teeming population of Chennai's 20-30 year olds on the weekends. Fun place to be if you are not allergic to crowds. Also lots of nice restaurants and hangouts here.

I work very close to Besant Nagar, near a place called Santhome. Will definitely meet up. Presently I am trying myhand at building a speaker (Trying out an existing design actually) so maybe you can also let me know how it sounds after it is done since i don't have to much of an exposure to brands not commonly availablein India.
You could also try visiting Mahabs(30kms from Chennai) and Pondy(140 ks) oin the weekend. The road is expressway so all themore better.

Yeah Harmon, i recollected later. I keep calling up this place evry once ina while asking if theyhave the the 9.5 on demo. No luck yet!
