Tell me guys, what kind of voltage stabilizer do you require for audio equipment? The voltage sometimes does fluctuate in the place I live in. Would a normal stabilizer do or would I require servo stabilizer? And what should be the capacity of such a stabilizer - this is for the cd player and Amp of 250W(8 Ohms)/channel.

hi cheraz.....did you get you equipment already ?

Best to use servo. They are more accurate in maintaining a constant voltage. The capacity would depend not on the output rating of the amp but power consumption rating of all your equipments.

The ideal thing to do is find out the power consumption rating of all your equipment from the manuals and get a stabilizer with a rating of 50% more than the total power consumed by all equipments. This caters to the headroom your amp will need on startup and louder playing volumes.

All equipments pull more power on startup and gradually level off. The last thing you want is burnt stabilizer parts.

Not yet Manek. But I hope to receive it somewhere mid Feb. The Totems are taking longer than I expected. Can you suggest any servo stabilizer brand because I can`t find any. All of them say that we have stopped as there is no demand for them.

The Wadia is 18W - fine. For the Krell they have 35W(standby), 80W(idle)and a mind blowing 2000W(Maximum). Could this be correct? The speakers don`t matter I guess as they would get their current from the Amp. So then you would say I require a stabilizer of xxx KVA?

2000W would mean approx 2KVA though the conversion factor is .8. Krell amps can be increasingly power hungry. One of my friends owns an onkyo dual mono design power amp and his room lights dim everytime he switches it on.

3KVA min servo stabilizer is what you need. Vinitec would be a good brand. Its a delhi based company having offices/dealers in other cities of India. Delhi being the mother of all power fluctuations, Vinitec has kind of made products to work in those conditions reliably.

If the voltage drops in your area are very rampant and if the voltage goes very low then you may have to ask vinitec to make it to your specs.
