Hi All,
I have always been inspired by music and music systems, but never had the chance to get something real nice, I have seen and heard yamaha's, denon, bose, harmon kardon, jbl, and just heard about some like NAD, MArantz etc. Now I am looking for something to start with, I know with the kind of limited budget I am fixing, suggesting a good system would be a little difficult but I feel thats how the things start. So if you could suggest what is the best i can get at that price(25K INR) and where( in chennai.)

Thanks a lot for reading the message and bigger thanks if you have something nice to suggest

i would like to add
I am not looking for a DVD player I already have one. It would just be a AV receiver and speakers subwoofer etc. As of now I can settle down with less number of speakers like 2.1 also and go for the rest later if that possible. I would atleast like to have a good receiver and a good sub.

Hi !

You could try out Sonodyne. You may be able to begin with a setup of 5.0 i.e. without the sub. Later you could add a sub.

Please check if your DVD player has a digital output.

I think,at this budget level[25k]u cant go for seperates.you need to expand ur budget little bit.otherwise u can go packages like JBL ESC XITE[around 18-20k].

This is a difficult budget IMO. Either you go for a package (as neono has suggested)...something like Sonodyne Cinique (30k), Onkyo HTS-580 (27k) or expand your budget by another 10k and start building your seperates. In first case you cant upgrade upon your exsisting system...but in the second case you can....you have to decide which route to take and whats your final budget for a complete setup.

You can also look at some of the Boston Acoustics package. The shop is Sharda Pro-acoustics on GN Chetty road. The same road on which Audio People is located. I had heard it once but around 2 years back when I was just getting initiated into HT. I was impressed then but don't know if i will be if I heard it again.

Try putting a post in the BUY section if you want a second-hand amp or speakers. New HT for 25,000? You will only get a stereo for that price.

I have heard HTIB from brands like Jamo, Bose etc. Don't sound good to me. Fairly useless for music.

check out the sonodyne package...there's one for 30K...
There's also a denon/onkyo one for around 25K...
I would stick with three brands denon/onkyo/sonodyne since they have decent receivers in their HTIB's so adding speakers later shouldnt be an issue.

Hi Guys !!
Thanks a lot for all the inputs, a few answers from my side

My DVD players does have a Digital Output, a coaxial one.

I did some research on the Home theatres in the past few days, the first and foremost thing is what all is available here in chennai.

I went to the AudioPeople, The audio people seem to be there to boast of all the costly or high end stuff they have, they don't seem to be good professionals, see i feel a good professional is one who can suggest me a solution in the kind budget I can think of.

Pro Acoustics(Sharda Motors): They have Marantz, yamaha, Boston speakers, NakaMichi, one more brand. I heard the SR4600 with Boston speakers, it sounded good.

Also I have heard denon at pro-fx, Spencer Plaza, that sounds good as well.

I heard yamaha, denon at Audio People but
Denon and Marantz sound better to me.

Yes I can definetly stretch my budget by another 10-15k , just i ll have to wait for another month or so.

What do you guys suggest
Marantz SR4600 or Denon AVR 1906/1706

I heard from someone that the Marantz is selling at 22k in bombay, here the prices that they have quoted is around 32k.

I need to find a GOOD SOURCE here in chennai. Can anyone help me on that.

Once again THanks for all your inputs

Hi,

Denon & Marantz definitly are far better than Yamaha.

Marantz SR4600 & Denon AVR 1906/1706 are the best options for an entry level AVR. I would suggest u go for SR4600. Denon is also a good option but a little bit brighter than Marantz.

SR4600 for 22K. it is the grey market price. Here in Delhi they sell it for 31K with warranty + bill and the grey market costs between 21 & 22 K.

Ask if the same dealer gives you without papers but with warranty.

I think that can be possible. Some dealers ask to pay VAT in order to avail the warranty and i think u can even get a bill on it.

Try negotiating a good deal for SR-4500 (while you actually talk about SR-4600). SR-4500 is a great AVR too - only slightly less powerful I believe.

Negotiate for Boston CR-65 as fronts & rear, CRC for center & PV-500 for sub. Build a 5.1 system (7.1 isn't much better than that).

Try to talk to your dealer about deferred payment option or pay part by card.
