A new Album from Paul Simon - Surprise

Paul Simon has just released a new album after six years and it's called 'Surprise'.

The Album is produced by Brian Eno and features the talents of the like of Bill Frisell,Steve Gadd,Pino Palladino,Jamie Haddad, Herbie Hancock among others.

I'm a great fan of Paul Simon and cannot wait to get my hands on a copy.

I wonder if any of you have heard it and if you have, what you think of it ?

I like Paul Simon. Simon & Garfunkel are one of my all time favs. I also like his solo albums like Graceland, Paul Simon, Still crazy after all these years. Brian Eno has created some great albums like Another green world, Here comes the warm jets (Did you know that he tried to describe "pissing"?). He also produced some super albums for other artistes Achtung baby - U2, Low - David Bowie, Heroes - David Bowie...List is countless. Should be interesting.

Not to forget Roxy Music.Played keyboards for them for a short time.And all that stuff with Fripp...

Yeah...Roxy music's debut was pretty good...but I do not like "For your pleasure"...after that Eno left. and Fripp...one of my fav guitarists (I have almost all studio albums of King Crimson and solo "Exposure")...but I have not listened "No pussyfooting" and "Evening Star"...

Anyway Surprise is from Warner Brothers...so EMI should release it in India within next 3-4 weeks.

Personally, I wasn't expecting much and I wasn't disappointed (or is that "was"?). Though his early works are undisputed classics, "Graceland" and "Rhythm of the Saints" remain my favourite "new albums" and everything after that has seemed like a letdown.

I see what you mean, in that sense both Graceland and Rhythm of the Saints are more accessable albums.One of my personal favourites is the highly underrated 'Heart and Bones'

Paul Simon to me is more than a mere musicians,he is a urban poet par excellence.Each song of his is a gem that is pefectly crafted,almost in the same vein as the best Indian lyricists.So I eagerly await every album, flaws and all.

On another note, has anyone heard the new David Gilmour album.

Unimpressed.....except for a couple of tracks it seems a bit mundane..

Just listened Paul Simon's "Surprise" album for the first time (mp3). It is quite upbeat and faster than most of his earlier effort. I can judge only after listening it a few more times...but for the first time it was good.
