A R Rahman's early work

Hi,
I'm on the look out for the soundtracks from the first 10 odd films that A.R Rahman scored music for - Gentlemen, Pudhya mugham, Duet, Thiruda Thiruda,Roja,Kathalan,B'bay...

All these albums were released by Magnasound, which unfortunately has shut shop.I have copies, but not of a good quality.

Any idea on how I can get my hands on a decent copy/recording of these.

Good thought...
Dont miss out "Dil Se"...Recently I purchased a copy and WOOOOOFFF what melody combined with musical experience..I ended up listening to it 6 times at one stretch.

Surprisingly the CD is very decently recorded and even costs more around 150 bucks (compared to other hindi CDs which are priced around 99 bucks and recorded cheap).
Try it buddy..really worth it.

One more thing...dont get the CDs which have more than one movie...they are badly recorded.

Good News - Roja audio CD has recently been released by MRS Filmcraft & Advertising Pvt. Ltd. for Rs 100. Recording quality is average.

Bombay is available with HMV - SaRe Gama
Dil Se - with Venus - good recording

As Abhi rightly mentioned don't buy combinations - quality is one issue - even the songs are not complete.

Recent works of A R Rahman have been great too - Zubeida, Rang De Basanti, Taal, Kishna, Saathiya, etc. And almost all of them have been excellent recordings. Zubeida - though less popular of the lot is one of the best and deserves serious listening on a good system.

This fellow has really inspired life into the hindi film music - which was dieing out in early eighties. He is original, bold, "experimentative" - genius !

you are right doc..I have this Cd and its just a mediocre recording

how I wish I could get a could recording of this movie..the songs are superb.

Dil Se - with Venus - good recording

Infact I would go a step further and say that its an excellent recording by hindi commercial movie standards. It enhances the melody almost by thrice.

Very true...his works are totally in a different league...cant be compared to others.

Hi,
While all the new stuff is good, I believe his early work in Tamil is really his best. Just the other day I was listening to Thiruda Thiruda, after a long time, just blew me away.

I just feel that his newer work, good as it is, just lacks the freshness and originality. Ofcourse IMHO.

BTW coming back to my query, how can i get my hands on to the original recordings or good copies...
