Hi,

I'm looking for a home theatre system around 50k. Slightly more than that also is fine with me. I don't have any knowledge about the brands.

Please give your inputs.

I saw a decent one at the jamo showroom for 60K. Go check it out. Okkyo now has a HT set as well.

There are devices available from Jamo, Onkyo, Denon, NAD which have the DVD player and a 5.1 amplifier within the same chasis. So it reduces cost and one managed to get a decent HT for the amount.

Thanks for both of your replies..

I'm a resident of Bangalore. I know about the Jamo Show room. Where can I find Denon & NAD products in Bangalore. Your inputs on this will be highly appreciated.

denon products can be found in the jamo showroom as they are dealers for denon products as well.

Another dealer for denon is PRO FX also based in bangalore who also sell KEF speakers and QED cables.

NAD i'm not too sure but you could contact Prithvi at prithvidac@yahoo.co.in at an audio shop called Absolute Phase in Banglore. He may be able to help you with NAD stuff.

Thanks for the Info Manek. I would visit cinebells this week end.

My room mate is returning from US this week end. How about getting the Home theatre system from US ?

Bals,

There are some differences for US vs Indian systems.

1. 110v vs 220v, so you will need a good voltage converter and that may run into few thousand bucks.

2. As far as DVD player is concerned, US is region 1 and it is region 5 (I think) for India, so in most cases the DVD player from US may not accept the DVDs manufactured in India.

3. The Hz cycle can vary (50 vs 60).

4. The only alternative is to get it from Indian stores in US (every big cities have them) and they mostly stock mass market stuff.

I hope this helps.

no sense buying from US. the warranty wont be valid as well as the other stuff mentioned. Pleas ebuy your HT in India for India.

Hi,

After visiting the Cinebels showroom, I have finally settled down for

*) DENON AVR 1404 and
*) Jamo E650.

Right now, I ready to invest only 60k for the system. Keeping in mind about the upgradation, I settled for 5.1 AVR.

Please let me know your comments regarding the current setup. It would be great if you could give me some other suggestions as well.

Balaji

bals...then you must try the KEF and denon combo as well from profx. They can fit a package for you in 60 if cinebels can. Are you going with the surrounds of the E650 or only two floorstanders ?

DENON AVR's are very good for HT. YOu cant go very wrong with denon.

YOu may want to try the onkyo AVR as well. They make very nice AVR's .

Manek,

I tried the Kef cresta and denon 1404 combo yesterday along with DSW1000 sub-woofer. It sounded good compared to Denon 1404 and Jamo E650 without sub-woofer( as it can't fitted into 60k HT pack).

I was not satisfied with the sub-woofer which costs 20k .. Can you suggest some other sub-woofer in that range.

Let me know your comments on the Denon and Kef cresta combo.

Balaji

Hi Balaji,

I suggest that you review the Yamaha RX-V650 (6.1 AVR) which has got very good reviews and satisfied customers
Yamaha is also pretty easy to match with speakers.

In Bangalore - Yamaha is retailed by Music Ranch (Jayanagar 4th Block) and Modern World (Airport Road).

Cheers

To be honest Joy,
I am not into subwoofers and dont like them too much either. Have heard a few though and the sonodyne sub seems to be a good buy for the money. Secondly, Jamo has subs as well. Definitive Technology has very nice subs going for not too much more.

Subs from yamaha, onkyo and other electronics manufacturers are not that hot. Buy a sub from a speaker manufacturer.

Regarding subs..as long as it is not for music, Yamaha is one of the more cost effective ones.

In case u are into Action movies on DVDs then make sure that the spec does go down to 25 hz at least..else if it is primarily around 40 hz should also be OK. also a 100 W built in amp should also do with it..(on a 8-10" woofer)

Things to remember are Size of rooms (Small 100W would do) in case of a dining Cum Living, you may need a larger (around 10" Woofer with around 200W) for a good effect.
There is enough info on the net on Sub placement.

may i suggest rel quake i think its for 29000, goto www.theaudiopeople.net , they based in chennai , should be able to help you. just be clear that whats your purpose becuase requirements for stereo and home theater are different. you can get away with a lot in home theater but stereo synergy is the key.

Hi Everyone,

just saw this page today.

I am in the process of upgrading to a Hi-End music system
(Speakers + Amp). Though not an expert in this field tried
to gather whatever knowledge possible.
Budget not to exceed 50k

Following have been experiences, please let me know if
you differ in your comments/ any advice.

Bose series
Listened to their Lifestyle series.
No doubt the sound is very good. But when it comes to the price I don't agree that its true value for your money. For half the price you have other products that offer equally good sound. No doubt the size of the speakers (sub woofer excluded) of other models do not match with Bose.

Sonodyne
Good sound, not very expensive when compared to other Hi-end competitors.
Their AV receivers are also very attractively priced.
Overall I felt it was a good deal.
80w RMS AV Rec + Sonus 2605 130w RMS combo sounded good.

Jamo
Visited the showroom when I was at Hyderabad, No doubt their
range was quite impressive with the Denon Comb.
Could not locate their outlet at Bangalore, Can you please
let me know where it is ?

BPL Pro FX series
Checked them out sometime back, They seemed ok. But nothing
very impressive
