hi,

Can you all please help me in selecting a Book shelf speakers in the range of 12k ? I am planning to use this book shelf speakers with AIWA stereo system(NSX 990/999) which has a output impedence of 6 ohm. Is it possible to use the BS with the AIWA stereo system? If not, suggest me some stereo AMP priced in the range of 10-15k.

Regards,
Balaji

Hi Balaji,
Good quality stereo starts at 19K(NAD320BEE),or Cambridge Audio540A(18K).Teac AG-780(16K),I haven't heard this,though.
You can listen to them, and then decide.
Where's u located?
Thx.

Cheers Bala

Welcome to the right place., You seem to be looking for a value for money speakers where you have couple of choices in Book Shelf. Check out on Wharfedale Diamond 8.1, 8.2 or the 9.1 range of speakers. You will be convinced on the product. I just had an audition of 9.1, it sounds amazing for the money. But I was not looking at the book shelf at all. So I didn go for it. If you stretch your budget you get the 2 way towers and check it out Diamond 8.3 also in the category. I think its priced less than 17k. These are the products which i got to hear last 3 months. out of 4 brands I had auditioned I found this brand convincing. But asthetics of the product may not be convincing in the Diamond 8 which I really ignored.

Where are you located by the way ?

hi,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I am from Bangalore. I am planning to settle with either NADC320Bee or HK. Which one would be better ?

Should I go for BS of FLRS ? Please advice me as this would be my first hifi.

I could stretch upto 35 k(Max)

Balaji

Hi Bala ,
A NADC320BEE and the diamond 9.1 will be just right for your budget.
Its around ( or maybe even exact ) 35K.

Looking for floorstanding might have to increase ur budget by about 5K. U should get the Diamond 8.4 for 21K in Bangalore.

I would go for HK.

With the remaining budget, around 15k or less, You have to forget floorstanders anyway. If you are into metal/pop/rock kind of stuff then you can try Space Audio's FloorStander, at around 15k. It is available at Music Ranch, Jayanagar 3rd block.......

H/K is good so is teh Nad but they both need a proper cdp.
regarding speakers i would personally recommend that u try the wharfedale diamond 8.4 if it is in ur budget, else go for any of the bookshelves like PSB, Tannoy(liked it better than the PSB),Wharfedale, Athena.etc...
forget abt Space.
no offence to u Abhi but Space is just a waste of money.
did not like the diamond 8.3better to go for a standmount(bookshelf) in that range.
try the new diamond 9.1 It is very goof value for money.

Ben

Bala ,

You can finalize ur options between the NAD and HK on ur budget.
I am not aware of the cost of the HK. Is it available in Bangalore ?

HK is available in Bangalore. But, I could not get hold of NAD Dealers in Bangalore.

Would there be any problem in using NAD AMPs bought in US here in India ?

Regarding the speakers, I am not so particular about FLRS. The things that I am looking are good sound quality, resale value(in case of upgradation later)/re-usability(in case of upgradation to 5.1/7.1). So, please suggest me, which one should I go for(BS/FLRS) ?

I liked Wharfadale Diamond 8.4 performance six months back. I would check Diamond 9.6 as well.

9.6 is goin to be at least 39-40k.
since u are looking to upgrade i would suggest u go for the diamond 8.4 or if u have a chance take a look at the Athena ASF2 model. It is a strong contender to the diamond 8.4
but arguably the diamond 8.4 is about the best deal u can get for 21-22k. also if u are not so particular abt FLRS u can take a look at the diamond 9.1 or many other bookshelves in the under 15k category.
u can move them to surround duty when u upgrade for a 5.1

Ben

In bangalore, u cud try NAD at the Music Ranch.

Where is HK available in Bangalore ?

I am not so sure abt the Diamond 9.6, never heard them.

But vote is for the Diamond 9.1. Its 15K and some good sound.

Hi Benks,
No offence taken....

BTW did you do a extensive listening on Space (with a decent amp) ?
I have done it with a Denon Stereo Amp (Dont remember the model) and a Good Philips CDP, If someone remembers, Philips once came out with a model called "900 series" ! It was an all seperates setup introduced by Philips. The CDP from this setup was used as a source when I auditioned Space.

I didnt listen to all kinds of music but I did try with the popular ones (both Hindi and English).

Frankly, I found them decent for the price. I would still suggest Bals to look at it once, if the musical taste is something like pop/rock/hip-hop etc..

I know a decent Standmount speaker will do better justice in terms of detailing but then the overall enjoyment derieved from a speaker has many other factors than just detailing. It is respective to ones taste and perception of sound.

Bals,
For an upgradability or better resale value, you better stick to the good brands. Bookshelves can any time be moved around as surrounds (if at all you plan a HT). But you dont seem to stick to your budgets !!

With 35k you have to compromise either on speakers or on amps, cant have best of both !!!

If you start with Diamond 8.4 then you have got hardly 13k for the amp then you have very few choices like the Pulz, Sonodyne, Yamaha Integrated (I think it retails around 13k - 14k) etc.....

Man you have to go around places and audition them with your music only then you can even come closer to your decission.

Abhi,

I had auditioned the Space Audio Floorstanding speakers at Music Ranch. It was plugged with the NADC320BEE and the NAD CDP. Frankly speaking, I found it dull. I found a lack of bass.

Well, i wont call myself an expert in auditioning audio systems. But this is what i felt on hearing the Space.

Cheers ,

Hey..from wht i understand being in this forum is, you get the best speakers possible to begin your setup. as you said your budget is arnd 35 k, i'm sure you'll find really good ones!
as for the amp you may start of with a pulz integrated amp, which comes at arnd Rs.7500/-(30+30watts) or their dual mono amp which is for 9500/- (60+60) these are really decent amps to begin with and will definetly grow on you.

This leaves you with a very broad range of reputed brands in speakers! as i understand from prithvi, acoustic energy's Evo-1 is a speaker to swear by, i'm sure he would have some cool options for you with your kinda budget. luckily for you, prithvi is from bangalore! All the best!
