Just wondering, why do you feel the need for an equaliser?
Is the midrange overpowering overpowering the other spectrums or is it to just correct poor recording?

Hi,
Is your set up meant for HT or music ?

If it is music, what kind of music do you listen to ?

From a slightly purist POV, the shorter the signal path from source to amplification to playback, the better the fidelity of sound.

A graphic EQ will alter/colour the tonal quality of sound.

If it is HT that you are mainly into, I suggest that you upgrade to a better HT reciever.

Cheers

Hey, hows it goin y'all. this is purely meant for music..i listen to evrything from jazz-trance-rock-instrumental-pop..for eg. i like to listen to sting, george michael, joe satriani, aldimeola, nnenne freelon etal..so wht do you folks suggest i do for my setup, i think, from what i read till now, EQ is a no no...pls advice. also i have not used hi end cables for my setup, here comes dumb Q, do they really make a difference..? also do you folks thinks if i add up a receiver (which i'm goin to soon, probably a harmon kardon, it costs round 25k), shld i run it thru my amp-rpeamp set up or standalone..Cheers

you could perhaps start by mentioning what is it exactly about the sound that you want to improve ?

It definitely doe not make sense going for expensive cables as, per the usual thumb rule, not more than 10% should be spent on cables...

my whole idea of an EQ is to have sound perfectly balanced..good "tight" n "smooth" sound, this includes the highs "MIDS" and the bass. which cud to achieved in my current setup too, but, do you folks feel adding a EQ to my setup would help me refine my existing sound or, it would be just too messy.

I personally do not think that adding an EQ will do the trick for you.

I hate to say this, but mebbe it's time for you to look at upgrading to a better system.

yup....I agree with krish....I am of the opinion that fewer the components in a system the better....secondly smooth mids/highs mostly depend on the equipment quality/cables and I dont think an eq would help you there.

An eq will help you if you want to but or boost a certian frequencies but It wont make any thing smoother or tighter.

EQ makes the bass too boomy and mids suffer ....you better off enjoy what comes out of your music than make it too artificial

I disagree!!!

Note kiya jaye Mi'lord!!!

Verry often even with a top of the line system, guy's like me have an urge to fiddle with the spectrum range. For instance, on low volumes, as in back ground music, the mid range over powers the highs and lows. Some times you just find the voice too loud, but not the other instuments... so an equaliser may be a good thing.

However I have heard the Pandam's and, thought they are good in many aspects, I thought I would really need an equaliser with that configuration!!!

Perhaps, my personal taste...

Roshan.

Roshan,

First I couldn't understand the term by -''Verry often even with a top of the line system, guy's like me have an urge to fiddle with the spectrum range'-. I've never ever seen many high end amps with tone controls.forget the EQ.as they are very natural in sound reproduction you don;t need freq boosts.Music should be heard the way it was played at the time of recording.Adding unwanted lows and highs gives me kinda irritation as much as the guy who played that instrument originally.
If it's your taste good .but normally frequencies should be faithfully reproduced and there should be no local additions..........well it depends for what purpose you are using them.if you intend to boost LF's you are on your way to screw up other freq range.............let it as it is and enjoy the way it was recorded.....if you feel mids are prominent in low volumes and dilutes at higher volumes it is the system problem you need to address to and not add an EQ to ice on the problem. If you feel the vocals too ,loud- it is how it was recorded..yes EQ does address to this problem..but it will add unnatural coloration and cut the frequencies.

P.S. - If you feel a particular brand is top of line you better change your thinking coz sky's the limit here.

Hi! Thank you so much y'all for all the inputs! i'll better put my money in a A/V receiver! i'm realyl happy with the way my system sounds, i guess i had a wrong notion about an EQ. also recently one of friends who came over to my place to check out my system, suggested a really good position for my Passive sub. there is absolutely no boom now (i had earlier placed it in a corner..now the fire is been aimed towards the right hand side corner of the room (diagonal). he explained this ways the sub has much more walls to reflect the sound. the sound too is very TRUE and consistent throught the room.

Again, i tought i'll share this coz the postioning was revelation..and i feel every Sub behaves differently in under certain circumstances and tht one shld try out all the combinations available.

Thanks again for all the inputs! really appreciate it.
