Welcome

What is your budget like ?

Lots of options with a Dynaudio but availability in Bangalore and price would be the primary constraints.

do you have any options from US/Europe/singapore ?

WELCOME RAMESH RAO! I WAS LOOKING FORWARD FOR YOUR POST.
You can go for good used Krell Class A amplification provided someone can source you from Singapore.

To better understand what you will possibly like ... ( You have a Generous budget) can you share what you are dis-satisfied about with your existing amp 'Marantz Integrated Stereo Amp, PM17 MmkII (100 Watts RMS at 4 ohms)'

Also what kind of music do you listen to, and what do you like listen for in music .... rhythm ? slam ? smooth High freq ? Imaging ? Low level resolution ? A Bright Treble ? .... ofcourse most of us want it ALL !

Cheers

Hi,
Look at Plinius P10..costs around 1.8Lakhs..rated at 200 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 300+ watts at 4 ohms

http://www.pliniusaudio.com/products/p10.asp

You can also look at SA-201

http://www.pliniusaudio.com/products/sa201.asp

The only constraint is...you may have to stick to Plinius Preamps as well...they mate toooo well.

BTW Audio Asylum has a saying:
Plinius + Dynaudio = Marriage in heaven

Thanks for the VERY generous 'Thumbs Up' sub Boss.

My fav topic and expertrise is what goes on INSIDE the amp ( the circuit part ).

Frankly I have not heard too many amps, and not the speakers that Rao is using. I honestly feel, that other forum members including yourself could provide better advice in this case than me.

My apologies to Rao if it seems that I am asking questions rather than answering his questions ....

I thought my question will provide a better insite.

Years ago, I used to feel that there was a Right and wrong in Hi Fi sound, and there was, therefore a single pinacle of performance... eg the BEST system in the World or the Bset Amp, Or the Best Speakers...

I have mellowed in this aspect , and feel that people listen differently to their music. Some like one and others something else... ALL views are Equally valid.

Cheers

Hi

Mostly I listen to Indian Clasical music and also fusion music of Indian music with western Instruments.

My son would listen to Jazz, pop etc.

I am very happy with Marantz, but feel the low bass punch would be better heard with more reserve power in the amps.

I have been to Cheraz's place...heard the combo sourced by a Wadia CDP. Didnt quite cut it right IMO. Sounded more analytical and Cold than involving.

Abhi as Krell are known for Class A and the only models with sound was KSA 100, 80 and 50. They are celebrated models and sell like cakes in used market. There were true Class A from Krell and sucked power. They were built like tanks and last for decades. Old pro audio nuts buy em over new FPB series and claim it will walk over them..My bro has heard them in US and totally bowled over. RRAo after all this suggestions I'm sure your head must be spinning at a pace!
BTW plan a trip to s'pore and spare some money from your budget for stay and look around. You are more likely to get firsthand experience and a better idea than discussing here.
You might even fly by morning and fetch the amp and be back by late night saving all middlemen fudging.

There's another older model rated at 125 w RMS -

http://www.marantz.c...u&bus=hf&prod_id=505

This is probably somewhere between 80-100 K each, so two of them will fit your budget.

There's also the new NAD M-series dual mono amp worth considering.

Hmmmmm..........you might be right sub...but I am skeptical.
The basic reason is, the Krell I heard had all the slam, authority and detailing that they are famous for. At no point did they seem to lack any of these....but but but... I didnt like the voicing. Difficult to explain I understand but I would give it a try. If you talk about independent frequency range they were fabulous in lows, mids and highs but the combo didnt connect emotionally. As far as I understand it doesnt have to be a big brand like Dynaudio or a Krell to connect emotionally, a decent combo with even half the reputation of these big brands can do the job but they should ideally match and suit your taste. That didnt happen for me. I never get excited when I try to remember the sound of that combo...Instead I get much more excited by a Kef Q7 + Denon PMA-2000 combo though they are way below the leagues of dynas and krell.
Simply put "When it connects, you know it".
If it doesnt connect, its not worth it IMO.
It might do really well with Maggies and LP but MAY not be as good with Audience82 and Wadia

Somewhere in another thread Bombaywalla has rightly written

Most of these kilowatt amps have lots of muscle but no soul! So, they end up producing great sound but no music. My opinion, of course.

You have expressed my thoughts Bombaywalla..thanks for the help (that you did unknowingly )

Ya Cheraz liked the sound and thats what matters most for him. But he never gave others a listen. I would have liked him to listen to his Dynas with a Plinius SA series amp as well

Lets not bring in the equation of "To each his own" so soon else the discussion may die a pre-mature death

Dear Mr Rao,

Just wanted to add my 2 cents...

Please DoNot buy without an in-your-house audition.

Most bands Voice there products similarly.

If your 100 Watts / channel Marantz is Distorting.... yes, then more Watts will be the solution.

If however, what you are looking for is rhythm and / or SLAM, then a more powerful amp is unlikely to be the solution.

You will probably have to change the Brand of one of your components... CD Player or Amp or Speakers.

All IMHO...

I just had a look at your original message, and a few observations.

Your amp is certainly a bit short on power.

Further, my personal opinion on Marantz is that the products are voiced for a warm, but detailed sound... the sound lacks Slam.

I have heard a only one (recent series) Dyna Audio book shelf speakers and atleast then, I felt the speakers lacked Slam.

Overall, the mating of Marantz with Dyna Audio maybe making the sound too polite ? Just my guess.

Incidentally, I recently heard some Very Attractively priced electronics a couple of weeks ago, at Play-Mumbai ( 022-26007700 )

The brand is ADVANCE ACOUSTIC, and I think its being launched as a NAD beater, addressing the mid priced market. Its a French company, and I think they have a website too. Google and you will probably find it.

They have a Preamp + power amp combo, includes a Remote Control, delivers 150 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms ( 300 Watts into 4 Ohms ). Its priced Very attractively at Rs 65K I think.

There is even a cheaper version - an Intergrated amp delivering the same power, I think below Rs 50 K.

Check with Play....

I believe that Mr. Sushil Anand is the owner of PLAY.

He earlier owned and operated Nova Electronics, and manufactured Hi Fi Equipment.

PLAY is the Indian Agent for ADVANCE ACOUSTIC.

PLAY also handles Monitor Audio, Project, Hitachi etc...

Heard Monitor Audio (silver) with Advance Acoustic electronics last Saturday. The CDP has a tube output and the amp was a 100 watter SS if I'm not mistaken. To be honest, I wasn't really impressed that much. But then again I felt the placement wasn't exactly perfect. Tomorrow will hear the Gold standmounts ad a ProJect TT. Anybody care to join me?

Hi Shahrukh,

I personally feel the room at PLAY is not Great for an audition.

Very Thin partitions... Bass gets out of control, by Hi Fi standards, though may be OK for Home Theatre.

I liked the electronics... for the Price, an absolute 'No Brainer.'
