If any of you have a Norge or Telome based system, please put a post on how it sounds. These systems are available in Mumbai and very affordably priced. I would like to know if they are worth recommending for stereo or home theaters at the entry level.

Also mention what music you tested it on.

Neutral,
I've heard the Norge system. If your frame of reference is notstuff like Rotel,NAD etc, then you are looking at a good deal.I think the top of the line amp (85 wpc @4ohms) retails for about 81/2 K.

I happened to hear this amp with a pair of Norge book- shelfs (which use Vifa drivers, another 8k I think ) about a year back.

Smooth and Exciting are the two adjectives that I would use to describe the sound .Rock,Fourplay, new age Music Today stuff is what I heard and it sounded good to me.The tonal quality is by no means uncoloured, but manages to be fairly clean.I suspect that both the amp and speakers have been 'voiced' to appeal to a broad market that listens to fairly mainstream music.

I would say that this is a great first system at a budget, especially for those who contemplating a boom box and want to get a taste of a discreet HiFi system without bustin' the bank

I am told that the Norge/Lithos combo sounds very good too.

Shyam Bajaj, the chap who owns Norge is a veteran in this business and has done time with Norge in Scandinavia He is also a good bloke.

Here is the address of his workshop

The 'Telome' I'm referring to is based at Bandra in Mumbai. I assumed it is locally made.

Thanks Krish,

I had met Shyam Bajaj a few months back at his Mahim office. I auditioned two of his amps - costing 4,600 and 6,900 - with his Vifa bookshelfs costing 8,500. He told me these prices were negotiable.

I found the sound quality to be good and would certainly have purchased them. However, my budget was higher - so I opted for Pulz which arguably has a more uncoloured sound and high-current capability.

Surprisingly no one on this forum even talks about Norge. They just mention NAD which is pretty expensive - unless you can buy it abroad.

Do you think anyone who has actually purchased Norge equipment?

I remember hearing the norge amp with lithos speakers a year ago. To be honest it did not compare well to the nad 320 and lithos combo. I felt norge has some way to go before it comes upto the level of the entry level nad. A recessed midrange is what I felt it had with lithos speakers. Nad definately did fill in that missing midrange.

please note the comparision of norge and nad was only with lithos speakers...with other speakers one may hear something different.

Manek, You and Krish are saying kind of the same thing. Norge products are not entirely neutral. They have their biases. A weaker midrange is characteristic of mass market systems.

Since Lithos speakers are neutral, chances are that they brought out a deficiency of the amplifier. Manek, how would you place the Norge against a Sony mini-compo? At its price, it wouldn't be competing against a Nad anyways.

I would think norge will beat a sony compo anyday. But then again I dont listen to sony mini-compo or such systems so I dont know if sony has brought out one which las a good midrange, I suspect not.

Neutral,
WRF to your post.I suppose Norge is available only in B'bay, which perhaps explains why not too many people have heard of it.

I actually know somebody who has a Norge amp/bookshelf combo and is pretty happy with it.This chap used to have a boom box earlier and was looking to upgrade, but without spending too much.
