Hi All,

If you were to spend Rs 5,00,000 for a Hifi system what would you buy..I know it sounds insane to some that it isn't enough or may be too much..but what fellow members would love to own is interesting to know..

P.S : Mr.Junia need not post his views.

Hey sub, if I had Rs 5,00,000 to splurge, rather than waste it on audio components I would put it to good use and get a lifetime supply of draught

PS: A couple of mugs and *any* audio system sounds like out of this world :p

With that kinda money to burn, I would like to see a Plinius SA 102 Power amp, an Audio research SP16 Tube preamplifier and an Arcam FMJ or Linn source in my system.

Just a few days ago listened to a Jeff Rowland Concerto pre and Jeff Rowland 302 power with JBL S9800 speakers. Source was a Mark Levinson 390SL CDP. Software was western classical and Rahman. Room was fully acoustically treated. The sound was simply astounding, never heard anything like it. Wonder if I would get this under 10 lakhs if all are bought used!! :p The speakers alone would be a good deal if we get used under 5 lakh!

Magnepan MG12 with 3xPSB Subzeroi subwoofers , NAD 542 and NAD 162+272.
Total cost Rs 2,31,000/-, excluding cables for which you can add Rs 20,000.
The trick is getting the 3 subs alinged in the room, which is possible as long as you are willing to give the dedicated space which any 5lakh rupee system demands.
Do this and you are rocking at Rs 2,50,000/-.Hey did I do this at half the price?COOL,GIVE ME THE OTHER 250K.

Why 3subs ? Isn't two the norm for good stereo ?

Dear Square Wave
2 subs is the norm for good 2 channel sound, but does not assure that the subs will not be localised by the ears, as the positioning will be by trial and error, and you still will not have, a reasonably flat low frequency power response in your seating position in most cases. The phase response is rarely dialled into correctly with respect to the main channels even if one uses 2 subs.
The 3 subs have a certain method of positioning involved in respect to any given room dimensions which also the main speakers have to follow. This said technique ensures the flattest power response in the low frequencies, and due to distributed nature of the subwoofer setup also locks the phase correctly, as each sub has different level setting for both phase and spl.

21.09.2005.

500 K on a 2 channel set up;

It is a descent amount to get a good Mid-Fi set up.

Before I get into specifics, I would like to suggest some basic ratios that I would follow :-

35 % or 1,75,000/- Speakers
35 % or 1,75,000/- Amplification [Pre + Power or Integrated]
20 % or 1,00,000/- Front End [CD Player / Multi format Player]
10 % or Rs. 50,000/- Tweeks [Cables + Racks etc.]

Once you have these basic parameters in place, we will have to work backwards.

Ask some simple questions ?

Room Size ?
Music Taste ?
Wife / Spouse 'acceptance' 'indulgance' - FACTOR ?

Work on a speaker choice - after you gave narrowed it down, choose a suitable amplifier [depending on the impedence / sensitivity etc. of the speaker]
CD Player / Multi Format player are a few to look at. Call for them home, voice your system through them & choose the one that suits your needs. [Lexicon RT - 10]

Cables and tweeks can always be worked around once you have the rest of the gear in place.

Will get back with 'concrete' suggestion in a while.

Happy Hunting.......

Regards,

Bhagwan69

Dear Arj
The true masters in Be technology are TAD Pioneer.Professional wing of Pioneer, making some of the finest drivers in the market and super expensive.Used in top notch studio monitors, cinema systems, and believe it or not in some very high end custom PA stuff.Infact the TADAUDIO speakers www.tadhomeaudio.com are one stab at the home superspeaker technology.Infact this stab does not use a knife, it uses a samurai sword. It has a coaxial Be driver arrangement, using a 6 INCH Be mid that operates from 300Hz onwards.Check it out.BTW tthe Lucas ranch use TAD cinema speakers for their screen monitoring.
