Hi Pals,
My first post in hi-fi forum.
I am planning to buy a NAD CDP from Singapore through my friend. I did some internet research about the shopping areas in Singapore and obviously Sim Lim square topped the list. But in some forums people seems to have lots of complaints about some of the shops inside Sim Lim. There have been some cases where the customers were given used or duplicate electronic components packed in new and original boxes. Since my friend who is going to buy the CDP for me has little idea about these “hi fi” components there is always a chance that he (In effect me) can get ripped by some of the shops inside Sim Lim. So I am looking for some shops in Singapore where he can go and get the (NAD )CDP without getting ripped of.
Forum members who had bought stuff from singapore , please help me.
BTW, how is Merdeka Audio ( http://www.merdekaaudio.com/nindex.htm ) ?

And the CDP I’m planning to buy is the NAD 542.

Thanks for viewing...

Merderka is OK. there is another dealer in the ground floor of Adelphi (Ner City hall station..very accessible and a much better place to visit)

i would suggest you get a quote from both and then decide.

Arj,
Thanks for the fast reply . Yep, I checked about Adelphi too. could u please tell me more about the shop there, like shop name or some way to identify the shop?

GP Acoustics.
it is on the ground floor. if you enter from the main entrance just turn right and i think it is on the 4th shop there.(just after the Linn dealer)

And the CDP I’m planning to buy is the NAD 542.

I wonder what is the price difference between the product in Spore and Indian Grey Mkt.

Worth it for someone to carry it in ??

If anyone has an idea, do post.

I have not yet checked the retail price of NAD 542 in singapore but I found this in one of the ecoustics forums.

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1/180543.html

It seems to be a better option(SGD 640 ) when it compared with the retail price(~28k INR) in India.

I have no idea about the grey market price here. if anyone have any information regarding this, please post.

I dont think there is a grey market for Nad products here in India.

I would also recommend you consider the new Marantz cd 6002.
I have heard it is supposedly a better cd player than the Nad 542.

Singapore is a dealer driven market. while some products like Nad, marantz, Quad are very well priced, Arcam, Rega and some tohres are very highly priced (even over MRP)

so you will get a better deal in some brands and not so great for others. in fact it was chaeaper to import them directly via people you know:)

@Arj>
Yep, price of NAD542 seems to be OK for me.

@SNV>
I have not auditioned this particular Marantz model. But to me marantz CD 5001 sounded a little harsh where the so called NAD's house sound seemed very much of my choice.

Have done several NAD purchases many times from

ALPHA AUDIO
#01-48 Sim Lim Sq (Shop No. 48)

They are reliable & also bargainable. Last C-542 quote was S$650, willing to accept S$600. Ask for Richard.
Tel: (+65) 6337-9011

MERDEKA is also on the same floor. They are at #01-51/52. (Shop No. 51 & 52). Tel: (+65) 6337-3737. Didn't like their attitude.
