DVI or Scart (samsung PS42P3S)

Hello,

Sorry I have to type this in English. I'm from Belgium and my German writing isn't so good.

I'm planning to buy a new home cinema system (Harman Kardon HS 200) and i have a question about connecting it to my plasma screen.

Its an older model plasma. resolution of 852 x 480.
it doesn't have a HDMI connection or YUV connections. it does have DVI. but i don't know if it is HDCP. does anyone of you know this?

what do you think is the best connection? using the DVI or the Scart-RGB? or other connection? Is connecting with the DVI at all possible (because not HD-ready??) ?

not at all, if you want to play real HDformats with protection flags (like premiere),so there is no way without HDCP (n.a. on your TV).
With Files from PC it works well (640x480 for Text) 1024x768 is the max. Input-Resolution.
It's also never ever HD-format.

The best connection is to use the Scartplugs (RGB), because your native Resolution is near by this.

hi, thanks for the quick answer.

are you sure the plasma has no HDCP? i read somewhere about a samsung dvd HD935 (with hdcp) connected using the dvi..

i was thinking about connecting the HDMI from the HK to the DVI...

But, if that is not possible, can I use a cable like this one:

Component to DVI cable

or can i use a converter like this:

Artelcom SC-VD-2
or this:

Component Video to DVI Converter

or can i connect the component output from the HK to the Scart input of the plasma. I've found this cable:

What is the best solution? how do i get the best image?

Remember your Words,
now tell me why you want a expensive converter.

For this resolution is RGB the best, if you have too much money try the converters with YUV, but there are no Pixels more than before. It's the same bandwidth.

You have a DVI-D, a component DVI-I cable can't work here.

So a Scart2YUV cable can't work, it's only a cable not a converter. Sorry for that bad Solutions.

but apparently it is a dvi-I connection and not DVI-D

PS-42P3S

I'll try both this and RGB-Scart and see what gives the best result.

i've seen these cables for Scart connecion:

Supra AV6
Is there a difference in using a cable like this or a normal Scart cable?

Lock at the Samsung Datasheet:

there are no analog connectors inside the DVI, but you can try.

I tested it with a HDMI-DVI cable and everything works ok.
it seems the dvi does have HDCP...

So i think i'll leave it like this.
