Anyone heard Jamo S408?

They are floorstanders, with a tweeter and twin 8" woofers. And they cost only 15K!

Is this too good to be true?

Arrey no.....thats why I'm asking

A friend of mine heard them, and said they're quite good. But he doesnt have much experience with audiophile level speakers. So, I wanted to know if any of the experienced memebrs here have heard it.

Hi,
I am not sure if the model I heard was this one. However I did listen to something priced at 17,000 by this manufacturer and the driver configuration was the same, although the bass driver was defintely not an 8 incher. Sound quality was surprisingly good and the size was compact. If its the same model that I heard then give it a listen if you can.

I have heard the Jamo S406 and S408 speakers. They are pretty good for the price but, as you would expect, not exceptional or outstanding. However I would recommend you listen to the Jamo E825 which is priced at around 17-18,000 and is a standmount but is very impressive. You could also consider the E640 although it is not as good.

This is for my friend, who wants to buy a cheap stereo system. He is thinking of the S408, and needs an amp. But his budget for the amp is only around 10K. Will the norge amp be ok?

The E825 would be completely out of his budget, as he'll need stands as well with those.

Yep.I think the top of the line amp(80wpc@4ohms) is about Rs. 8500.Very good value for money.

I auditioned Jamo-S408 at Cinebels Bangalore.
I took 3 tracks......
1. Thrill is Gone -- BBKing
2. Buffalo Soldier -- Bob Marley
3. Space Truckin -- Deep Purple

The sound that I got for BBKing was absoloutly pathetic. Just too bad.
Bob marley was class.
Deep Purple was ok. Nothing great.

The stero amp used was a Denon....not sure of the model..but it cost about 30K.
A Denon DVD player was used to play the CD.

And he did not have any other amp/player to have another try.

At least I would not recommend the Jamo-S408 to a Blues fan.

My friend went ahead and ordered the Jamo S408s with a NAD C320BEE. He will get them today.
He says he heard the wharfedale 8.4 at Cinebels, and they sounded lifeless and dry to him

Buddy, for the kind of juice your friend is looking for, he should have tried Sonodyne, he would have been floored by the sound. If its not too late, you could well ask him to give it a try.
