Head Fi - The cheaper option?

Just receveid the DT 990s today.
Been listening for the past half hour or so. They sound good but definitely need an amp to bring out their best.

The Maximo's are cute. If they are also comfortable and sound good, they are definitely a good buy.

Trust u have a strong back, Sachi The Pass Labs amp weighs over 30kg and is brutally powerful. You certainly need your own apartment! What speakers will you pair this monster with?

Do listen with your headphone amp, and then tell us how the Beyerdynamic sounds

You guys won't believe it...but i just pulled the trigger on a pair of HD650...i am really trigger happy this month. 600+$ and counting

How about an AMP for all these Cans! Gilmore Lite with the P/S ?? Lets make it a cool grand worth of gear

That's what friends are for! Motivating you to go the whole way. Cheers The Gilmore sure has excellent reviews. It's been tried with both Grados and Senns.

You might have to take into account 230V PS requirements for India, if you plan on returning.

Say, I thought the Beyerdynamic you bought was top-end. Will the Senn 650 beat it. Await your comments.

Just got the HD650s today...will post my comments only after honoring these cans with some solid amplification..which is coming soon.

$165 is a sweet deal for the HD650.

Got it used on headfi. Excellent condition and came with original boxing too.

Got rid of the HD650 and the DT990.. I am just waay too much in love with my HD580s..I love everything about it, even the imperfections(as perceived by the HD650 fanboys). The hD650 feels really heavy on the head after the first hour or so. Also, the treble seems to be rolled off more so than the HD580. The DT990s, well, once i got them and had about a coupleof hours on them, i realized that they simple were not my cuppa. They sound like fun, but not good enough to keep them. I traded them for a pair of DT770s plus some cash, mainly because, I had too many open headphones and my colleagues were starting to complain, and also because I liked the DT770s when i had heard them.
I am not ruling out buying another HD580 though.

Looks like higher numbers dont necessarily mean better sound. Nice to know you found your can.

what a co-incidence ! i tried on the 650's as well and decided to settle for my 580's...

I just found my 580's to be great bang for the buck so on the value proposition front they were kings...650's didnt sound too rolled off to me. Nice headphones though the 650's are.

Considering what you guys are saying, the 580s sure have some magic to them. Though still find it hard to believe that u guys gave up way more expensive cans for them. Sad, that Senn had to discontinue them.

Sachi, are they forgiving of mp3s and tapes. Is the hiss under control or is it highlighted?

hey the 650's are very good headphones and they are better than the 580's but I'm coming from the bang for buck angle. 580's do give you a whole lotta headphone.

when the 650's do get cheaper.....I will surely buy them. I dont mind buying them in their last month of sale for a song

That's right, i got another HD580
The original owner had changed the grilles to the ones from HD600 and the cable is from a HD650.

Reminds me of a mad scientist mixing body parts from various people. Sure do tell us if the mods work.
