Hi guys, Yesterday I got a nice surprise sent by Manek: his own self-made power chord for testing. This chord is quite a fat "rope" , with a nice grey and blue colour braided tube and a worthy 3-pin plug with solid brass pins. Though quite thick, ist's still flexible enough to be routed along narrow space behind a system. And today I got the biggest surprise when I auditioned it against my Siltech BERLIN, an entry level cable, and FINESSE "Resolution-1" power chords. The Siltech cable in comparison to the Finesse cable is already a different story all together. Much tighter bass and wider soundstage are the advantages of the Siltech connected to my VA-1 amp. I can't try out the chords on my CDP 'cause it has a fixed power chord only. When I connected Manek's cable I hard could believe it. Such an improvement I would have never expected. Mids really opened up a lot, bass got much more weight and the sound stage became even wider. Congrats Manek! You really did a great job with that cable! If someone is interested to get a demo on this cable, you're welcome to come along. I'm sure you will be surprised too |

Indeed! Congrats Manek, you closet DIYer! looks like you nailed the DIY power cord receipe! is it Chris Venhaus' OR Jon Risch's receipe? Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks! |

ha ha !.... Bombaywallah....you knew I was fidling around with power chords...remember ? I tried the ven haus and john risch configs but this one came out better. Amp_nut...and ani, I had made this chord specially for Jochen as he had a need for one that was less expensive than the esoteric brands, better than the local ones and one which performed well. Took a while to get it right. Jochen, you are too kind with your words, thank you. I havent decided on going commercial with it. maybe one day, who knows I right now am more interested in knowing how it compares to others. Manek. |

the iec was a good local one, lam road. 6amp 3 pin plug was household stuff with brass pins. No fancy connecotrs on this cord sachi. I've tried out various terminations but the inherent quality of the cord remains with or without fancy terminations. Manek. |

Very nice.. Woould really like to see some pics and some building tips Manek? Or do you rather that we order them from you? Btw, did you use heatshrink?..i thought of making some cables for my KSC-75s and was woindeirng about heatshrink..it seems one would need a machine to actually heat the heatshrink to get a good fit.. heh heh !....I dont take orders...not yet atleast...currently no time but I plan to build a couple for myself and improve on it if possible. Building tips ??? I would call them learnings.......to mention a few.....good quality home connectors(not all of it) work well if done well.......good strong soldering on the plugs seem to work well.....what did come to light is that the number of strands connecting to the plug pins made a diff.....be carefull of broken strands especially on the live end. Lumpy soldering did adversely affect the performance. Had to work at it a bit. Dont have pics of it...jochen if you have a dig camera ??? Yes heat shrink is used but with a good heat gun so it is reasonably tight. The biggest improvement was quality of copper and termination. Manek. |
