Of late I have been noticing some sibilance from my speakers which was not there earlier. There has been no change in the setup. Is it possible for a system to be sibilant over time or is it just my ears? Are there any ways to counter this?

Thanks!

Maybe you're picking up a HF Hiss from somewhere, which could be reinforcing the highs into sibilance(plz ensure that the tone controls are at the flat position)
To check, turn on your system to the usual vol level w/o anything playing & put your ears right next to the midrange/tweeter.
If you hear a pronounced hiss, try to get to the source of the hiss by a process of elimination.

could it have anything to do with the drivers? in my old bose videomates the left one was damaged and after half an hour or so of play would add its own signature tune to the music sort of like the driver was vibrating on its own. but this was very noticeable and i dont think like the hiss you're hearing. just added the info for your info.

Come to think of it...actually yes...was trying some aussie shiraz (too full bodied for my taste)...Amp Nut, think you may have hit the nail on the head

are you sure that it has come up now and it is not something which existed but did not notice ??

In my experience, which is definitely not very great, one major culprit is the source....

not sure if any degradation of components like Caps causes Sibilance..Amp Nut might be just the person to comment on that.

Don't think the source is the culprit as I tried with both the CDP and the tape deck. Could it be the interconnects? I was using the same pair with both the sources.

Will try moving the speakers and my listening position about a bit today and see if that makes any difference.

It could very well be the case...is it my ears' way of telling me its time to move on

Also check :

1. Whether the speaker and power cables are in contact and parellel to each other.

2. Whether the power plugs are tight in the socket.

3. You can also try putting shorting plugs in unused analogue and coaxial inputs.
