No Sir !

I have not heard it.
However, I am keen to.
I sure hope the Dnaudio Showroom opens soon.
I want to hear this & the Saphire.
Other models I have 'auditioned'
My lust is still to listen to the 'consequence'
Someday...........

I auditioned these speakers in S'pore today, really like the sound, since I am coming back to Mumbai on Monday, have to make the purchase tomorrow.

Wanted to find out the price in India, to confirm that it's worth bringing it down from S'pore.

I heard a whole bunch of book shelf speakers and liked these the most in the under 80K (INR) price range.

Costs around 95k here after discounts. Its my favorite speaker in its price range. What is the price coming to over there? I like the focus 220 floorstander much more than the 140 bookshelf. The imaging is as precise as the bookshelf and the full range helps.

I heard the Usher BE 718, after the Focus 140, liked that much better, so have placed an order for the same with Sridhar at ARN in Bangalore.

The Focus 220 are available in S'pore for approx 75K

I am planning to move my audio setup from my Bedroom to a dedicated room within the next few weeks, so will be needing some advice from everyone here on this forum for tuning the acoustics of the room.

The Usher 718be is one fantastic speaker…….Great choice Ronnie.

And it goes very well with the odyssey amp you have. You need a good preamp though. Have you picked up something ?

Thanks Square Wave. I picked up the Odyssey Candella tube pre 6 months ago.

On a different note, my dedicated audio room is only 12 feet by 9 feet as compared to my bedroom which is 20 feet by 13 feet. I am wondering how these bookshelf speakers will sound in a small room. The good thing about the smaller room is that I can do what ever the hell I want to do inside it in terms of room treatment, carpets etc, can't do any of that in my bedroom.

Great combo Ronnie. The candela is a great preamp…)
The BE718 is a bit dificult to drive. I think it is rated at 87db or something. But reviewers estimate slightly lesser. Not a speaker for gutless amps. With the right amp, it will shine. The odyssey drives it effortlessly.

I will definitely post my comments. I have to wait a couple of weeks for the delivery. Speaker placement and room acoustics is going to be a major challenge in av9' by 13' room I am trying to setup for my dedicated stereo setup.

I am reading up extensively on room treatment, measurement using roomeq etc.

I am sure it's going to be all worth it, when I come home from work and spend a couple of hours listening to music in that room.

Met Sridhar and heard the Ushers today during the afternoon. I'd go on to say they are the best speaker this side of a lac and half. I've listened extensively to Abhi's contour 1.3SE and I have to say this Usher is much better. The beryllium tweeter is to die for. The speaker is wonderfully balanced and sounds heavenly for female vocals. Their performance completely defies their tiny size and for 1 lac all inc plus cost of stands, this is a ridiculously good deal.

My hands are itching to get one. However I have to test it with the electronics that I have before deciding.

You got to have clean electronics to extract the best out of that speaker. Anything grainy or bright will have you running for cover. That speaker manages a balance between an analytical and overly warm presentation. But it is very revealing speaker. I am sure you heard it with the odyssey/candela combo.

The ushers can be compared to the dynaudio confidence C1 not to the contour series.

It is among my favorite branded speakers around a lakh. The others are the Green mountain audio-callisto, Proac response ISE, Devore fidelity –Gibbon 3.
Yet to hear Arj's merlins

I heard it with two different combos. The first one was the odyssey stratos+candela which though very nice, sounded a bit harsh in the treble region. Then we switched to a Red Wine Audio 30.2 integrated. This is a Class T and runs off sealed lead acid batteries. The speakers sang beautifully with that amp. The CD player was some MHZS audio with a tube output stage.

Going with my McCormack, Lyrita Pre and Citypulse DAC tomorrow to check them out.

Of course, the redwine integrated is smoother. This is because you are using batteries instead of AC. Household AC is one of the biggest culprits for harshness. That is why it costs around 1.3 lakh.
The downside is lack of power with demanding speakers.

There is another speaker I saw @ Palm India - SHow that took my interest;
This product could well take the fight home to a lot of mid - fi / hi - fi audio speaker combinations...........

Please do take a look - study the specs - try and audition it, if possible [it is sold in India].

It is active - so no amplifier cost, just a cd player with a volume out & you would be home.....

Abhi,
All the mentioned speakers are voiced quite differently. But I like them all for different reasons….
Picking one depending on one’s taste would be a daunting task. What do you think the merlin is similar to ?

I havent heard the Ushers yet...will be doing it during this week.

The Merlins were somewhere between the Proacs and the GMA.
Proacs sounded really sweet to me where as the GMA was kind of dry (though smooth)...the Merlins are between. But I suppose it was still burning in so I would have to listen to it again before forming an impression.

Yes the GMA disappears really really well. I liked theie imaging as well....very precise.

But they sounded kind of lean and small. I never got the sense of scale of the instruments. Basically it sounded like a small speaker . Regarding the tonality....no comments .
Didnt excite me nor bored me. Why do I spend on a speaker like that ???

Regarding the Proacs...yes they are on the sweeter side.

Yesterday me and reignofchaos visited ARN to listen to the Ushers. We were there for around 3 hours. The guy there Mr.Sridhar is a nice chap....very patient and knowledgeable as well.

I had taken my CDP and Amp. They already had 2 CDPs for demo the MHZS and Usher. They also had the Odyessey Pre-power as the main amplification unit for the Usher speakers.

I went there with a lot of excitement but unfortunately there was a significant issue with the room which made the audition somewhat dicey. There was a bass suckout right at the sweet spot and since the room was of average size (16 X 13) there was very little room to play around with placement. Still we tried our best to hear whatever was possible .

The speakers look fantastic. They are built well. Overall it definitely looks like a speaker double the price .
As for sound...the details were excellent especially the highs. I wouldnt comment a lot on the speaker at this point because of 2 reasons:

1. Due to the room there was a significant lack of bass so it doesnt give me the complete idea of what the speaker can do.

2. Speaker had done only about 60-70 hours so it would change further.

I also had the opportunity of hearing the Odessyey Pre-Power combo. The power amp looked mean and big. It did have good drive as well. But tonally... ...They were average to my ears. I wouldnt even compare it to the Plinius in that regard. Fundamentals were there but the harmonics were all missing. I wouldnt attribute this to the pre-amp as it is supposed to be a good pre-amp...so most probably the power amp was lacking there. But yes for that kind of money you have to choose between power and resolution...may be .
To me McCormack sounds much better.

You did not write about the 3 different cd players ?

Did you play any other speaker in that room to check for that bass suck out ?

Can you move your listening chair around ?

If the speaker cannot be moved, get your chair closer to the rear wall = bass will get a boost. Try it.

I really do not like the McCormack. You say that the Odysey sounded worse than the M's ? Is this the same amp that is made by Mr. Rolf of Symphonic Line ? I used to love his Kraft. Heard it a few times & I really liked the amplifier. It is always used with Accapella Speakers....
