Quad 22L Speaker Connection

When I got my Quad 22L, I was confused by the speaker connection terminal. They seemed to be only set up for bare wire, and I have banana plugs. But after talking to Walter (the dealer), he instructed me on how to use the banana plugs on the Quads.

So if anyone out there has had the same confusion as I had, here's how to use Banana Plugs with the Quads.

If you look at the connection terminals, there are four of them. Two for "HF" and two for "LF".

On each one is a metal plug with a little Red or Black piece of plastic, which indicates Positive or Negative. It's in the center of the head... of the metal plug.

I did the following, one plug at a time, so the connection bars would not fall through.

You can unscrew the metal plug (by turning to the left) and remove the plug completely. Then, turn the plug around, and you'll see a cylindrical channel , which runs through the center of the plug. You can take a thin hole puncher, or long needle...and gently push the Red or Black colored plastic right out. Really, it's just a tiny little, plastic plug that comes right out. It's not glued or attached in any way.

Screw the metal plug back onto the terminal (turning right) and .....just insert your banana plug.

It's funny, I wondered if those Red and Black tabs were removable. But I was afraid if they weren't ...I'd screw some thing up. So I called Wally.

Well, I have a little over 30 hours on the Quad 22L.

So at this point, and with good recordings, a few things have come to mind (and to my ears).

One thing that keeps crossing my mind, is the word "Poise". These speakers really convey the music with poise.....grace.

There's also a very noticable improvement in the way the 22L convey the timbre or intonation of the instruments, compared to the Paradigm Monitor 9 v.3. I'm very happy about this.

Some nice music coming through.

Mstislav Rostropovich's J.S. Bach Cello-Suiten sounds absolutely beautiful!!

On Dave Weckl's Master Plan " Festival de Ritmo ", there's a lot of busy drumming from Weckl, mulitable horns, keys and Bass going on. The Quads just handle it all so well. Poised.

I can't wait to get the Odyssey Tempest Pre-Amp. The Hafler 110 Pre-Amp is a weak link in the system, right now. The Tempest should make a noticable improvement.

That's all for now. I'll wait till I get 50 Plus hours on the Quads, before saying more.
