I was at the Joe Satriani show yesterday. What a phenomenal artist ! At 53, he has more energy than most 25 year olds. He performed for almost three hours without even sitting down for a minute. The rest of us sat and then lay down after the first hour. I was thoroughly impressed by the speed, skill and stage show by this guy.
The sound system sucked big time. It was sheer torture. I guess Bangalore has a long way to go when it comes to hi fidelity sound for live shows. The bass region was a big puddle of mud. At times it was difficult to differentiate between the kick drum and the bass guitar. The sound was so muddy and shrill that it was very difficult to gauge what the artist was trying to communicate to the listener.
I have a few of his albums and he sounds much better in my music system. Shouldn’t it be the other way around ??
Well, I had this wild bunch of friends ( die hard satriani fans) with me so after sometime, I forgot about the sound and just head banged away !

!

To be honest, this is true of practically every concert I have attended in India. But then I don't think any place staging concerts here has the combination of equipment/acoustics that we finicky listeners normally do at home...

Many years back (in my college days) I had been to a concert in Goa. The sound was by Roger Drego from Bombay.
It sound was good. And this was the best sound I ever heard for a live concert.

But mostly these guys who arrange the show, do not invest too much in sound. They only see for profits and not good sound.
Really unfortunate!

There is a lot of difference in sound at a rock concert and at home. Cant compare the two.

bangalore is not the only city where live sound sucks....it happens everywhere.

At the al jarreau concert in bombay, the sound was terrible !

Mark Knoffler concert sound was good. Both different venues, different sound engineers and equipment but both open air.

So I guess it also depends a whole lot on the venue and who is doing the sound and how much money is at his disposal as well.

manek.

Comparing concert sound to your home hifi is not fair..even though engineers use best of the equipment open environment is the culprit... but it's a diffent kick altogether
