Me preferably very low volumes like 1watt at max during night times and hardly 5watts in the day times and sometimes..if i start to hip hop will got to full volume by connecting the 10 inch woofer to it...

Hardly i prefer in 90db at max...for long listening sessions...

so I think its better to have a 50watts RMS into 8ohms or 100watts RMS into 4ohms amps in order to drive the speakers..

I think many own amps in the 20 to 50RMS/ channel...

so for example if we take the Dyns into account it can be driven to 150watts (4ohms) I think an amp with 100watts into 8ohms will suit the application...But (high current amp )

Once while auditioning the Dyns at Prithvi he clubbed it with the Rega Mira amp...and was not satisfied by the power and said dyns need atleast 100watts amp. I think its rather better to speak as high current amp rather than the high power amp...

I think even If you have a 30watts high current amplifer it can easily drive the dynes without anyproblem with tight bass...

But in general even Sachu said he hardly listens at 10watts...

whats ur preference ...

cheers,
Sandeep

Loud enough to be heard in the kitchen when I'm home, low enough to be heard under a conversation when required, but mostly just loud enough to enjoy the detail in the music. 80-85 dB sometimes, 90 dB when I'm going for it, and 95 dB if I'm planning on getting an eviction notice or if there's a party next door. Mostly about 75 dB/1m is enough. That would be a lot less than 1 watt.

The Mira sounds like they're low power, but their sonic signature is just fantastic.

Power = current x voltage.

Loudness = sensitivity x power / distance

Unrelated rant: I fail to understand why we try to get speakers with ruler flat responses with overcompensated crossovers, and take huge amounts of energy to drive. I still think music lies in the single OB driver with a low-watt SET or Class A amp. Such systems can also provide the 95 dB sound pressure, they just do it differently.

Hi,

This power game is often overplayed.

In fact, many of the best designers in audio have stressed that the first watt is the most important watt as far as music reproduction is concerned. The rest of the power is there in reserve to reproduce the dynamics of music. Sound levels versus power input being a logarithmic relationship, a sudden peak in music can easily demand instantaneous power of over 10 times. But remember, this is instantaneous power, not mean power. Music being a dynamic signal, the power draw is constantly changing. It is a credit to the design of the power supply to provide this instantaneous power, without too much droop, even if the overall mean rating is not very high.

The power equation between an amp and speaker is obviously dependent on the sensitivity of the speaker. The high sensitivity speakers, over 92 dB/1 watt, demand much less from the amp. So, the two should always be considered together. It's a sad state of affairs that speaker sensitivities on average have fallen over the years, rather than the other way around.

But, the single, full range, high sensitivity driver reigns supreme. Atleast some designers are headed in the right direction!

Viren.
