German old receivers

Hello everyone!
First, sorry for using english, then sorry for the following questions for which might be answers, but I can not find.
A friend of mine talked to me about the nice sound of old german receivers and amplifiers and old I mean until like 1975-1978. Is there a top? I am looking for that warm and engulfing sound. As speakers I have a DIY enclosure with a SEAS fa22 fullrange
2. Grundig rtv 380 "knows" moving magnet cartridge?

Hello,

I owned an RTV 380 some years ago. This unit does NOT "know" MM cartridges, only ceramic/crystal. You would require an external phono pre-amplifier.

The RTV 380 only is an entry-level receiver, it was described by Grundig as a "stereo" unit, not "hifi" (according to the DIN standard).

If you like these old Grundig Receivers, you should take a look at the RTV 400:

The RTV 400 does have an MM port.

The top-of-the-line from Grundig in the era of the RTV 380 used to be the RTV 650.

If you want to get serious, try Revox Tuner B760 with amplifier B750, or reveiver B780.
I strongly recommend the 1st combination, the latter already runs an early uC, which can be troublesome.

Since you prefer old designs you should keep in mind:
a) Do not buy any Hybrid-equipped gear, whic were very common in those years. A failure of an infamous "STK" chip or similar is a total loss today.
b) Try to get a KISS design (keep it simple stupid). These are repairable much much easier, if required, with parts still available.
c) Practically all of these old devices will need some care and inspection prior operating them reliably. This will add significant cost if done professionally. Unless you are resilient enough (or unless you are an experienced electronics geek) I recommend to stay away from such old devices
