Hi
I would like to know whether anybody has auditioned Spaceaudio equipment?
I heard some of their offerrings
2 floorstandings and many sat sub combos.Floorstandings sounded superb coupled with some amp called Pace(which I came across for the first time).Any observations on Space speakers?
Also I would like to know if anybody can offer some feedback on Sonodyne AS400 amp and Sonus 1601 floorstandings.?You can view the specs here:http://www.sonodyne.com/homeM.htm.
Some advise as to Floorstanding vs sat sub would be appreciated. How good are Sonodyne equipment vis a vis something like amps from Yamaha.
Thanks

hi,

sonodyne being a local indian audio equipment manufacturer, has been around for some time now. They make value for money stuff but in my personal opinion is not as good as the entry level imported stuff like yamaha, NAD etc.

Their speakers are decent but there better ones if you care to look at slightly higher prices.

I'm not a fan of sub/stat stuff at all. I find them very unpleasant compared to a decent pair of bookshelves or floor standers. The sub/stat weakness is that most of the small stuff available cross over to the sub around 100hz and that's onr thing that spoils it all for me amonst others. They are Ok for home theatre application but for music.....NO NO !

But that is my opinion only. Others may and will differ.

Same for a decent syereo amp.My room is about 250sqft.Wht is the minimum power rating I should go for?
Thanks

hi,

you can try Wharfedale floorstander(8.4) at Total sound in Infantry road, bangalore. ph no:51132165. price:22k.
Also you can try Rotel(RA-01)amp without remote for 18k here.

you can check out all yamaha amps at Music ranch in 3rd block jayanagar.ph 26532145.ax-396 costs 13k and ax-496 costs 15k. you can also check mission(floorstanders) 34 and 74i here. prices are 27k and 25k respectively. Tannoy floorstanders are also available in the same price range here but i don't know the exact price.

3rd option is to check at Profx showroom in MG road Barton center. there is one h514 floorstander for 29k but he will give it for 23k after discount.you can also check Denon amp(pma 495)for 16k.

i don't know if there are any official dealer for Cambridge audio amp in bangalore.

i purchased mission m74i and yamaha ax-396 last month inspite of Manek's advice. Now i'm not too happy with my yamaha's performance.i could'nt source any good amp like Nad, rotel, Cambridge audio. waited for months and then got fed up and settled for Yamaha.

let's hear what manek has to say.

bye.

Hi Jeeves,Manek
I picked pair of sat-sub(not the active sub variety)from Music Ranch with a clear understanding that I should be able to replace them with a pair of Floorstandings if I want so..listened to it over the weekend and beleive me they sound great.
The clarity and imaging is just fabulous...let me what I should do..
He also sells Space floorstandings for about 14k,which also sound great.
Pls tell me what I should do..
I have to act today.
Thanks a lot

kishore,
for one...I had hear the combo of the yamaha and mission in bombay and was not happy and thats why I had written that they dont match up well.

Deb, what sub/stat did you bring home ? model ? brand name ? is it "space" ?
sub stat as I had written earlier dont float my boat becuase I just dont find a synergy in that config. The sound you hear is different and thats why you initially think its good. Live with them for a few weeks, hear other systems and you will find inherent flaws with them. The floorstanders or even good bookshelves are always a good bet according to me. The lower mids and upper bass frequencies around 100-150 hz are compromised and stuff below 100 is muddy.

BTW the space audio bookshelves have recieved a decent review in AV max. you should maybe give them a listen or their bigger floorstander brother.

Hi
Agree with Manek. IMO for 2 channel music nothing replaces good floorstanders.

The low thumps / thuds and the high tinkles of Sat / Sub can sound very thrilling initially but you soon overgrow them and start looking for some real good sound. All this is fine stuff for the novice and for impressing the neighbors but not if you are a serious music lover who wants the hear exactly what was recorded and the way it was recorded.

Saw the space audio website.
I would go for the floorstanders....they seem interesting. Dont know if you heard TWR-6 or the TWR-6x. What price are they being sold at ?

Maybe I'll go and hear them out after all sometime next week. I think we owe that much to our local manufacturers. How else will they get feedback to improve ?

Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha. Denon from what I have heard is a bit more pleasing to the ears, a bit more mellow when played on stereo mode. Onkyo seem to be a bit edgy on the highs but strong on the HT front.
Both are good for HT. NAD also has a good AV reciever with very good stereo reproduction as well but dont know about availibility in bangalore.
I believe the yamaha rx-V1400 is a pretty decent allround performer but dont know how much it costs.
I know onkyo and denon has very decent entry level models.
