well, i had been to audition the diamond 9s.
first impression i got from seeing them was that the build quality is a huge improvemnet over the diamond8s. more so in the case of the 9.5.
i had a couple of cds with me for test purposes. he was using a nad preamp and a rotel 1080 power amp. but the cdp he was using was a pioneer dvd player!
anyway, i asked him to start with the 9.1s. bear in mind that according to him these were brand new speakers with only an hour or so of burn in.
the 9.1s sounded rahter good with a very wide soundstage and good detailing in the highs and mids. absoluteley soothing without sounding too laid back and never like the in ur face type of speakers. i spent an hour listening to the speaker and then asked him to switch to the 8.1s. the 8.1s actually sounded very good albeit a reduced soundstage and lacked depth in the mids. the bass in both were less for my tastes. the 9 was sounding a little flat in the lows and it was understandable considerind the burn in time. will have to listen to them when they have burnt in to make a proper assement.
coming to the 9.5 i was relly impressed with the improvement in the quality of workmanship. but u should expect such things in a product which costs a good 12 grand more than the 8.4. however the build quality of the 9.5 was clearly eclipsed by the acoustic portraits(the top model). i spent another hour auditioning the 9.5. the first thing i noticed was that the mids were clear and crisp and so were the highs. the sound was overall warm. the bass was however a big letdown. i guess the drivers still need a lot of break in. the bass was boomy and loose and muddled all at the same time! compared to my well broken in 8.4 s the 9.5 were almost evenly matched in the highs and mids but the bass needs a lot, i mean a lot of improvement. the highs were better than my 8.4s but they seemed evenly matched in the mids.
after listening to the diamonds i headed over to Prithvi's place and wow. the difference in sound quality was so overwhelming that i would suggest to anyone investing obver 70-80 k for a pair of speakers to really consider the Proacs as they are really a steal for their price. no doubt they are the best sounding speakers i have come across till date and Prithvi asys they were playing only at 20% of their capacity. can't wait to hear them aftet they have completeley broken in. but if budget speakers are what u are looking for it would be hard to make a mistake with the diamond 8.4s. they are still top of the class for 22k. excellent value for money.
however if u are looking for a pair in the 40-50k region i would look at the acoustic portraits. they actually sounded much better than my 8.4s. the highs and the lows. the bass though comparable to the 125 was a bit muddled . but the qualiity was way better than mine. i would definiteley give it another look.

well,i listened to the diamond 9.5 and the 9.1 today.
the 9.1 was sounding very nice. sweet sounding. the 9.5 was much better today. though it still needs a lot of break in. the bass has improved tremendously.but still a long way to go.
