This tape-deck is extremely complicated and it's impossible to say where the fault is without doing some measuring/investigation into the control circuits...
The Dual Capstan Motor system is very special. It has a dual tacho-control system and if the motors are out-of-sync, the sync detector sends info to the microprocessor about the fault. I assume in that case the processor will go from PLAY to STOP.
Just what may CAUSE an out-of-sync situation is impossible to guess on. Fault in a capstan-motor, fault in control-electronics, fault in power-supply ....or maybe even a mechanical fault that causes a motor to run slow. That could be something as simple as a Pinch-roller bearing needing cleaning and lubrication.
All this is speculation, only.

About the B710:
-is there tape transport visible when in play function?
If not: capstan maybe ok but the left spooling motor may not react so the tape is blocked. When this happens: tapedeck thinks the tape is at the end so it must stop.

Besides: It's a generally problem with all REVOX-tapedecks.
I got the same problems with my B 215 - and still I have.
