IFA 2018: LG 8K OLED-TV in 88"

Da das Gerät vermutlich noch etwas außerhalb der normalen 4K-Modelle laufen wird und ohnehin wohl vorerst nur auf wenige handverlesene Exemplare begrenzt sein wird, macht ein eigener Thread losgelöst von den 4K-Brüdern durchaus Sinn. Immerhin handelt es sich hier auch um den ersten OLED-TV größer als 77" und so wie LG Display in der Vergangenheit argumentiert hat, wird es vermutlich in der Größe auch nur ein 8K-Panel geben. Auch ist durchaus denkbar, dass sich der Produktionszyklus nicht an den 4K-Modellen orientieren wird, sondern der TV eine Sonderrolle im Portfolio einnehmen wird - auch preislich. Das hängt natürlich auch davon ab, wie schnell LGD neue Produktionsverfahren (für 65" bedarf es wohl Top Emission

LG Electronics kündigt nun auf der IFA 2018 den 88" 8K OLED-TV als Consumerversion als Antwort auf Samsung´s 8K QLED-TVs an und auch wenn der 8K-Markt dieses Jahr nicht groß sein wird, möchte man wohl nicht mit OLED hinten anstehen. Da es sich zudem auch um eine Ankündigung der Unterhaltungselektroniksparte handelt, wird wohl die Markteinführung auch nicht mehr all zu lange auf sich warten lassen.

LG said while the size of the 8K TV market for this year is estimated at only 60,000 units, the segment is anticipated to expand to 5.3 million in 2022.

The company added that the size of the market for OLED TVs, estimated at 2.5 million units this year, will jump to 9.35 million units in 2022.

LG Electronics said on Aug. 29 it will unveil its 88-inch 8K OLED TV at the upcoming tech exhibition in Germany, claiming the product will help the company expand its presence in the global premium TV market.

The company said it will introduce the new TV at the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin which kicks off on Aug. 31.

“LG’s first 8K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and the next evolutionary step in display technology” said Brian Kwon, president of LG’s home entertainment business. “4K OLED played a major role in reshaping the TV industry, and LG is confident that 8K OLED will do the same.

Neben der Helligkeit soll auch die Effiziens zu den 4K-Brüdern vergleichbar sein, was auch dazu passt, dass schon die aktuellen 4K-OLED-TVs mit dem gleichen Energielabel ausgezeichnet werden, wie das letzte Full-HD-Modell 55EG9A7.

Besides the usual advantages of true blacks, vibrant colours and wide viewing angles, OLED’s self-emissive display characteristics also allow for higher resolution without compromising brightness and design. In general, because higher resolution is attained by reducing the size of every pixel, aperture ratio is reduced too, leading to lower brightness.

LG Display claims OLEDs are self-illuminating and therefore not as severely hampered by aperture ratio, making them optimal for 8K panels, unlike transmissive LCDs which require more powerful backlight units that increase energy consumption, material costs, and the bulk of the final products.

Na ich hoffe mal, das dann 2019 HDMI 2.1 nichts mehr im Wege steht.
Aber 8K ist schon heftig, es gibt ja im PC Markt noch nicht mal Grafikkarten die 4K in jeder Anwendung (vor allem bei Spielen) schaffen.

Naja die TV's werden sowieso die nächsten Jahre unbezahlbar bleiben.

Laut Nikkei erscheint der 8K OLED vermutlich noch in diesem Jahr:

SEOUL -- LG Electronics has developed the world's first 8K television using organic light-emitting diode technology, with the product expected to hit the market as early as this year."

"LG did not specify a release date for the new TV, although it is expected to be available as soon as 2018. Next year could mark the dawn of an 8K boom, if other manufacturers like Japan's Sony and Panasonic jump into the fray. The technology may become the mainstay of large flat-screen TVs in just a few years."

In their recent earnings call, LGD stated that they would be ceasing any further R&D investments into LCD technology, instead accelerating their R&D investments into WOLED. It will be interesting to see whether LGD ever announces an 8K IPS LCD panel or whether they just milk the tail of their LCD business limited to 4K...

Neues Auto oder TV

Da werden nicht viel übern Ladentisch gehen.
Vieleicht werden jetzt die 77" mit ollem 4K bezahlbarer.
Ich finde die Größe 88" gut, 8K ist Nebensache.

Was ich mich frage: Wo und wieviel 8K-Content gibt es eigentlich? es gibt ja bis heute noch so gut wie keinen echten 4K Content. Selbst UHD.BDs sind meist hochskaliertes 2 K Material.

Also das Thema 8K TV ist für mich völlig sinnlos - lieber wieder Full-HD 3D TVs!

3D wäre wieder schön, wenn das wiederkommt.
Muss ja nicht in allen Flats verbaut werden, wer es benötigt, sollte es auch bekommen können.
8K Demo Videos gibt es auf YouTube, leider macht mein PC Bildschirm ab 2K dicht.

Tolle Kiste...
Leider für Normalos fast unerschwinglich, wenn auch kein Preis genannt wird.
Wir können nur etwas hoffen das die Preise für 77"4K OLED sinken.
