A small querry regarding Connectors...

Is connector for a speaker cable important?
Does it improves sound quality?

The reason for this question is the price for a 3mt. pair of QED silver anniversay XT is 3000 wheras the price for the connector is (405 X8)=3250 which is more than the speaker cable..

Nothing comes close to 'bare wire'

It is the best to use Bare Wires.
However, it does not look 'good' & may have a messy feel to it.

But, it is best to connect bare wires to the terminats and tighten them. Also apray some WD40 on them later, so that they do not 'oxidise' very easily. They will for sure, but the WD40 will slow it down.

Try out the connectors vs. bare wires and get what you like.

As bhagwan69 said... bare wire is the best... when the wire is multi-strand.

Also, yr speakers should not require only banana plugs !

Monster makes some Very Nice Banana plugs...

Quite nice banana plugs ( Taiwanese I think ) are available at Lamington Road, Mumbai at "Champion Rubber" for about Rs 100 each.

Bare is good..in fact very good, but it has problems

1. you need to make very good contact and for that the terminals need to be very tight (it should really be jammed in)
2. oxidation of cable ends can cause loss in contact.

I personally favour spades if you are not the type who keeps fiddling around with cables in that case bananas are better
!

just get a decent spade...no need to go for fancy stuff.

In order of priority:

1. Bare wire
2. Y-Spades
3. Banana Plugs

"Bare is Best"

Right, Sanjay-look where its taken Mallika Sherawat-what could she have achieved with bananas/spades?
Vpriyan, heed the wise words of elders & (Sanjay has practical experience here!) bare it all !
All the best!

Hi Guys,

in my opinion a better speakercable connection than bare wire is when you solder the cable directly to the crossover. I did that some time back with a speaker. And to top it, use the same speakercable for the internal wiring also. The improvement was clearly audible.
If a connector is necessary I would always recommend low mass connectors such as Bullet Plugs or NextGen. If that is not available, spades are best because one can really tighten the screw and get a good connection.

Jochen, the idea sounds delicious..but one needs to be really committed to the cable for a marriage...most of the audiophiles may like only a n affair with the speaker and the leading wire..and some may just have a "bang bang thank you maam/sir"

Hi Arj, it's not such a big job to change the cable: take the crossover out of the speaker, so that it becomes an external cross over, keep it in a nice box which you can open easily and connect a new cable whenever you want. For someone who knows to solder it's perhaps a job of 5 minutes or so per speaker. Of course it becomes a bit more complicated to change the internal wiring also.
