Hi All,

Benks visited on saturday and I listened to NAD with my klipsch's. NAD was smooth with a invisble kick.I guess thats what NAd's are famous for and with these high efficient speakers at 9'0' clock postion it was loud and at 10'0'clock it was super loud and clear but not as clear and clean like AA Puccini which was also called in between for a comparo.....sweet sound... great vocals...Now gotto look for Marantz Pm 7200.but Income Tax people hacked my budget with taxes........aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrghhh why the hell do these year endings come when we plan to buy Hifi... will save up some more...but auditioning in the mean time..guys keep your ideas coming in.

Arj....told my bro in US to check with rega brio

if you get an oppurtunity, try some valve amps & see what your Klipsch is capable of :-)

sub...

PM7200 would not better the AA puccini with your speakers, I would think.

But got it a shot nevertheless.

Hi Sub,

Rotel amps are pretty good, and I have found their build quality to be better than NAD’s. However, the RB 991, at 200 watts per channel, is a powerhouse, and IMO would be overkill for your speakers. Component matching is very important, if you had a pair of difficult to drive Dyns, the RB 991 would be perfect. I have tried my RB 1090 with Klipsches (I don’t remember the model, they were big speakers with 2 large woofers), but I must say I could not stand the pairing more than a couple of minutes. With Paradigms however, the story is altogether different, the synergy is unbelievable.

I would suggest that, having bought the Klipsches, make use of their strengths. Use their high sensitivity to buy a lower powered / higher resolution amp. Since you understand automobiles, let me give you an analogy. Say, if you were driving down a semi steep ghat with plenty of sharp curves, what would be your priority? A hugely powerful V8 engine, or taut precise handling? Your Klipsches place you in such a situation, somewhat. I am not saying the Rotel is bad, on the contrary it is a pretty good amp, and do audition it by all means. Only, with your Klipsches you wouldn’t be needing so much power, so the money can be used to get a higher level of the other attributes instead.

I would seriously check out the PM 7200, it seems pretty formidable on paper. It is, in effect, 2 amps in one. You get 25 watts of class A which would be great for the Klipsches, or 95 watts of AB which would allow you retain this amp if you were to change your speakers, or go in for a second pair for your bedroom. It has “Processor” jacks which would allow it to be used as an outboard power amp for HT. In terms of features it does offer a lot more than the Puccini or the Nad, plus the Marantz build quality is very decent. On the sound quality… only you can tell.

Just listen to everything available and then decide for yourself what exactly you want!

All the Best!!!

sub,
the marantz class A feature would do good for you but I doubt whether it will top the AA. But try it, one never knows until you try. Big ears is right....try lower power amps with higher resolution and marantz built quality is good.

maybe you could try the cayin tubes with your klipsch's or maybe a roksan or an arcam.

BTW how much money have you kept aside for your amp ?

Manek, you are right, I too had found the AA to be quite musical, and hence my earlier suggestion to Sub to include it in his list of options. However, after a whole week of living in, looks like it hasn’t found much favour with Sub and neither has the 320 BEE.

The PM 7200 seems to offer great flexibility, and although I haven’t heard it myself, I do understand from a reliable source that it sings well in Class A, once warmed.

PM7200 may be more energetic, but won't top AA. Cayin valves would be better bet than both. I think there should be a dealer in B'lore.

Guys undoubtedly...AA was superb....great vocals and Jagjit singh came alive....even Indian classical flute was superb....but lil more punch.... Rega Mira is on par with AA what I felt, but vocals it's the AA. but I listen metal, trance, disco..so it took a back seat there..for Classical lovers - AA is a no nonsense amp....

sub,

the more I think of it the more it makes sense to me for you to audition arcam amps if possible as well. You liked AA so you may like arcam too.

They also have amps starting from 40w/chnnl onwards.

Hi Sub boss
Sorry could not reply earlier, did'nt log on as I was busy in Delhi. I will be here for a while.
You're right. You should audition before you buy and in an earlier thread I had suggested to Viren to appoint dealers for the benefit of potential customers. He had replied that he would have to think abt it. Until then we will not be able to judge the quality of his products.
I intend to visit him sometime soon and will ask him again about his plans. In the meantime perhaps you could send him a PM, he is a member of this forum.

Hey guys,
just got my comp setup yesterday night.
it was great to meet Mohan and his audio enthusiast wife. spent close to 3 hours at his place. the Klipsch are good but the space is a bit small and would love to have heard them in a larger room with some breating space for the speakers on all sides.
But it is understandable.
heard the AA Puccini for a while . was good but too little hearing to make a proper judgement on it. it seriously lacks the bass for heavy metal and hard rock kind of music.
The Nad performed pretty well with the RF3's .
wonder what else Mohan's planning to listen to next.

Man kicked all the stuff in the way of RF's now I have them beatifully 8 feet apart..little toe-in and toe-out happens now and then to determine the right spot...but sound improved amazingly.... Klipsch guys strongly recommend spikes...so will plug em in too.....oh hell why is it still wednesday...waiting for weekend...

hi mohan,
still at it ?

so sory i forgot to post the rubber footing..it has travelled with me to Paris

But you are on the right track with the spikes. try putting it on a granite tile/Slab. also you can experiment by removing the shoe and putting the spike on directly. in spite of dampin the shoe with Blu Tac i still did not get sufficient rigidity.

also do check out , perhaps prithvi has some good brass cones to use as footing. the quality of Bass just improves with a firm footing.

Currently my hifi is very limited ot the iPOd as i have NO TIME

plan to get my amp/cdp down here in a couple of months and start audiotioning some speakers..but these french aptms are like damn pigeon holes
