For that kind of a budget you are much better off with a 5.1 channel amp. It is also quite future proof (if you are not very ambitious about channel upgradation). Most of the DVDs are 5.1 today and it will be supported even in future because it has been the most popular format for quite a some time now.

If you have a very big room then it can be thought upon but not at this budget...

i sugest u to go the other way round
go for an excellent speaker(spend 55 to 60 % of ur budget on this)then look for partnering equipment like an amp..
i would suggest u go for a pair of speakers and then go for a receiver..slowly u can think of buying the center, surrounds and sub

Ok...

Just put down your budget for each of the components seperately (speakers, avr, dvdp)

then we can discuss.....
I know a guy in B'lore who deals in Definitive Tech.

His name is Pranav...9886011889.

hey all

i am looking something like 25k for receiver basically a 7.1 for the another 5-7 yrs without changing it.as the blue ray is goona make its appearence in bout a year or so,during that the dvd's will come in basic 7.1 encoded.thats the reason being i am looking for a basic 7.1 receiver.for the speakers i am keen on going for a budget one.maybe to start of with i ll be looking for a book shelf rather than a floors as i have no space.then in the coming months i ll expand it slowly.do these def. tech. speakers fit in my budget?

- yu can also look at the sonodyne range-
they have a new HTIB called the "cinque"

also can see at denon 1905 7.1 AVR for 26k
and add in -
harman/kardon AVR 235 is 7.1 for 32k
yamaha had a package-rx 450 5.1 + nsp 100 speaker package for 31700/

or best wait till the AV revolution show- where yu wud get the best deals-

Sonodyne is worth looking for in your budget. They have a decent bookshelf speaker for 8k a pair.

hey abhi,
just had a check at the sonodyne, but didnt like the performance at all when i heard to the dire straits-romeo juliet(my own cd) which is ah AAD cd......on the satellites they have....forgot to hear them on the book shelves.....will do it the next time i visit there....i heard to the AE evo series bookshelf on a marantz amp, they are really good...and even to the tannoy arena series bookshelf they too sounded good on an yamaha 350 amp.......then had a look at the JBL book shelf with HK 235,they were not up to the mark like the tannoys and AE......

i agree with u about the poor performance of the sonodynes..
regarding the tannoys..i liked the Mercury M1 better than the PSB-1,which was twice the cost of the tannoy..

i suggest u try the def techs..
the Procinema 100 speaker package contains 4 sattelites+ 1 center and 1 sub(the one i have)...
if my memory serves me rigth..it retails for 42k..
i suggest u take it up with the dealer and check it out...

i met the yamaha dealer here- who had this brochure from last years av show-
he had this brochure with the deal-
i think yamahas are the cheapest avr's around- but yu can seriuosly think of denon at 26-27k and add on stuff-

this time the av revolution show is at ashok hotel here in delhi fron the 2nd -4th september
same is happening in mumbai i presume-

Edges,
Its really very difficult and not worthy to expect good musical performance from the sattelites (though its genie series has got good reviews)....

Since you are extremely tight on budget and looking at something versatile so I suggest you to look at the Sonodyne Bookshelves.....

If you can go beyond 12k for the bookshelves then you would have many other and better choices.

You may also want to check out offerings from other Indian companies - Lyrita and Helia. But you may have to stretch the budget on speakers and cut down on the receiver. I have not been able to audition these, so it is best to request members if they can let your audition their systems.

I think you will have to rely on auditioning these speakers in users home environments. I am not aware of any stores in Bangalore that are stocking these now. From what I understand they be be listed by some of the commercial members in this forum.

I have emailed you the details of the contacts. Please check your mail box. Feel free to PM / email me if you need anything else.

if i may suggest..
why don't u try the diamond 8 package..
for 40-42k u should be able to squeeze in the diamond 8.4 diamond center and the diamond 8.1
the only thing missing would be the sub which u can add later..i did the same thing..
bought the yamaha receiver and teh center and fronts..
bought the sub 6 months later..
Cheers,
Benks

u can still try out the diamond 8.1 and 9.1 both are excellent bookshelves..
also the AE EVO1 standmount is a strong contender.
if u have some cash to spend then u can try out the quad 11L.
Cheers,
Ben

Check out the earlier thread http://www.hifi-foru...&thread=581&postID=7 and see if you can nicely request someone for audition. I think these are floorstanders however.

Marantz are very decent receivers. Look for some bookshelves that do not need lot of space behind and the sides considering your space restrictions.

i have already taken the demo of AE bookshelf at ref piont.....they sounded really good.....almost equvalent of tannoy bookshelf at music ranch.....then i tried it out at JBL but it lacked the crisp guitaring of Dire Straits as with te tannoy and AE.....i have even taken the same thing on wharfedale floors of diamond 8.4(black) but it was not as clear as the bookshelves.....for the time being i am looking for an amp.....i think i will go for the marantz 4500/5500......can u people suggest on the amps please.....
