I found the above surround sound reciever at ebay for Rs.15500. How good is the model? Any sugestions for home theater receivers under 20k ? (getting confused between home theater receiver and A/V receiver

).

Also any sugestions for fairly good but cheap center channel, fronts (under 25k forthe four speakers) ? Got a quote for Mission 32s for 12k from a dealer in mumbai ?!?! Is the sub very necessary or can i add it later? Planning to use a pair of paradigm atoms for rear.

Hi vivekama,

If you have not bought it, don't. RX-V350 is a very basic receiver. In Yamaha do not go for anything below RX-V450/457.

You can also look at Sonodyne - costs around 17.5 k. Below 20k I don't think you have any other choices (Sony is also there but...), except if you ask someone to purchase from abroad.

The phrases are used interchangeably, mean the same.

U might wanna look at HTiB speaker packages, I will not be able to suggest anything in that area but others might.

I also agree with verynewone that if you go for Yamaha, don't buy 350. Just see the backside wiring panel, they don't even give speaker binding posts for all speakers.

I just bought the RXV357 a couple of weeks ago
So far I must say I am happy with it. Haven't yet gone to the positive db range of volume.
It is a basic receiver but I think it delivers what is needed. I was getting a good deal on the RXV357 and the NSP110 - my surround speakers.
Have seen a bit of Starwars and heard a few different CDs so far and it seems to be doing justice to both movies and music.
The stereo imaging is not bad, I am sure it is not in the same league as any good floor standers but on it's own it is not bad.
Overall I am happy.
The thing to do in HT and in stereo is to do a lot of research and then trust your own ears and isticnt when making the 'buy' decision.
Many pieces of equipment cater to different types of taste and to different levels of discernment within the audience. In my case I am happy with what I have bought thus far. Though I will shortly look to buy a couple of floor standers if I can get my wife to agree that they don't look ugly.

Before you purchase audition both the receivers (and any others if they are available below 20k) and then decide.
