DTS wird das für HD-DVD und Blu-ray Disc entwickelte neue Mehrkanal-Audio-System "DTS++" zukünftig unter dem Namen "DTS-HD" vermarkten. Damit will man auch marketingtechnisch vom "High Definition"-Hype in den USA profitieren. Der Begriff wurde dort allerdings bereits verwässert, als das stark komprimierte digitale Radio-System "Ibiquity", eine in den USA verwendete Alternative zum europäische DAB, in "HD-Radio" umbenannt wurde. Viel mehr im Vordergrund dürfte allerdings stehen, die Begriffs-Verwirrung zum neuen "Dolby Digital Plus"-Format möglichst gering zu halten.

DTS-HD soll für das neue Lossless-Audio-System von DTS stehen, welches Mehrkanal-Audio mit verlustloser Kompression ermöglicht. DTS-HD wurde bereits als optionaler Audio-Codec sowohl für die HD-DVD als auch die Blu-ray Disc beschlossen. Genaue technische Spezifikationen zu "DTS-HD" wurden bislang von DTS noch nicht veröffentlicht.

hört sich sehr interessant an. Weiß hier jemand schon wann DTS-HD zum Einsatz kommen soll bzw. wann Anbieter Software-Updates für ihre DVD-Player anbieten werden.

Thanks you for your interest in DTS and DTS-HD. Availability of content with DTS-HD sound will be the responsibility of the content owners: the record labels and the movie studios. In turn they will not start delivering content until such time that HD-DVD or BlueRay play-out equipment is widely available.

I expect you will see first equipment and maybe first discs by the end of 2005. You will probably need to buy a new 'DVD' player, but you will be able to maintain your DTS decoder as the DTS-HD format will be backward compatible with existing surround sound systems.

Apologies that I cannot be more specific, but that is the state of the developments right now.
